okay before i go to the vzw store and exchange my phone for the droid, i want to know what i should get in form of accessories. because i know the rep will want to force me into something that he will claim is the 'best'..

cover - do you guys just use the phone naked or do you have a click-on or whatever case for your phone? suggestions please? should i even go through verizon?

case - ive seen some interesting ones, the best one i saw was the wallet one which seems perfect.

car charger - i bought one for the eris, can someone tell me if i need to buy another one now?

cradle thingy - ya know, the one where the phone sits in and charges (i believe) while displaying the time? looks awesome. recommended?

extra battery + charging dock - i shouldn't worry about this yet, but im just curious. if anyone has a recommendation for an extra battery (not that one that adds a pregnant door on the back) please let me know. also - can someone link me to an extra cradle to just charge the extra battery? i seen it somewhere.

any other suggestions? im hyped to get this phone. im sick of the eris. this phone looks like it has too much potential. i really want to know if i should go through verizon for all of these accessories (car charger i think i should).. i also would like to know about the cover - do i need one? how do u guys do it? i seen some ugly lookin ones out there and i dont want to be conned by the rep into getting one that is not nice. (had this experience before)

THANKS GUYS! I HOPE I LOVE THIS PHONE!

I have my phone naked, for now, but I think I'm going to just leave the screen naked because I'm super careful and it's scratch proof...plus, its very good with finger prints so they hardly ever show!

The only true ACCESSORY that I bought was the CAR DOCK! I have not used it YET since I just got my droid, I've played with it in the house a little but I'm going to take it out tomorrow....Really excited too! I would recommend that one because of the Navigation system it is perfect for trips and just where ever you need to go!

Thats all I felt the need to buy! :)

can someone tell me if i can use my car charger that i used for the eris on the droid? itis a 'mini usb charging port' one....

also - should i go for a screen protector / case @ verizon if they push one on me?

I like the silicon/gel case that I got from Verizon but have since bought a different case so the silicon/gel is now in a drawer. But it does offer a layer of protection if dropped.

I got the screen protector from Verizon and hated it. It doesn't cover the buttons at the bottom of the screen so it is very evident that you have a screen protector on. I ordered the clear cover from Boxwave and you can't even tell it's on there. Plus it doesn't show fingerprints as badly as the bare glass.

I have the clear snap on case and screen protector from Verizon. The screen protector works great and I recommend it. The snap on case fits very well and it works to protect my Droid. If you get a snap on case, don't get a clear one. The clear case looks great when you first put it on, but over time lent from my pocket has gotten between the case and my Droid and looks bad. I would recommend the solid black case. But remember that you won't be able to use it with the car dock.

thanks for the info - i will stray away from verizon in terms of accessories then. i did like how they had their cradle in the store where u put it on and it charges while displaying the time, simple but effective.

one thing i will not be purchasing is that seidio battery extended life, wow, i looked at some of the pics of the back door u must use and it makes the phone look pregnant. ugliest thing ive seen in awhile. i'd rather have an extra battery charger/battery. rather confused on the other offer seidio has, the slim battery - says its 1350 but isn't this phones stock 1400? doesn't make sense to me, rather get another oem.

i know this is off topic but instead of me making a new thread i'd like to ask - is this phone really as heavy as some people claim? what are your guys' opinion? i have the eris now and i know the droid weighs more, but is it that noticable? i want to be able to slip it into my pocket and forget about it when walking around. thanks

My wife has the Eris and I have the Droid. There is a difference in weight, and you can tell by simply holding on the to the two of them at the same time. Is it enough of a difference to stop me from using my Droid... not on your life! I also run my Droid naked and put it in a G1 pouch I bought on eBay. I had the clip on case for it, didn't really like it, and I bought a screen guard and didn't like that either. My Droid goes in my front pocket with the case on and I don't have to worry about keys, jack-knife or change dinging up the phone.

Just my $0.02

Doesn't this forum have a policy about advertisements? @cuskit, This is annoying to see pop up all over the place.

But back the original question, I'd get a protective case for sure.
True, it is in a round about way a form of advertising, but not with that sole intent. Those posts pointing out the MIKRADLE have been in response to members seeking advice for alternative solutions to the Motorola Dock. And I would not call 3-4 posts across 3 weeks "all over the place"!

At least all those who have purchased and are appreciating their MIKRADLES were not annoyed to be pointed in the right direction to the provided links.

Look to the heading of this Thread - "need suggestions on accessories", and tell me that posting a link to the real advertising site would be considered inappropriate!

Respectfully yours - cuskit

i would also like to know if a case or screen protector is completely necessary? im very careful with my phone but im always paranoid. the only way i'd want a case is if it would not add any noticable bulk. i notice a lot of people have it naked because of their insurance.

the screen i heard is nothing to worry about because of the durability. what do you guys think? should i still get a case/glass protector?

also - what are these invisi-shield products? do they simply cover your whole phone like a screen protector would do? do they offer any protection/i.e. would i sttill need a case?

i noticed some cases make the corners of the phone a little more rounded, any suggestions on quality cases that do this (if i were to get one)?

finally - what is boxwave for those that recommended it? and the silicone/gel cases - are they snap on?

I can only speak of the gel case - that's what I use. It snaps on very easily, a back and front cover. Goes on rather easily and seems to hold in place very well. Has a slightly raised section for the volume and camera button to aid in locating them. Mine is black and has a "rubbery" texture to it that gives a very secure grip holding it. If any complaint about it - that same texture makes sliding it in and out of my pocket not so easy. I've had a couple of small, mishap drops with it - the case did a great job of protecting without any damage. I bought mine with the phone at the VZW store, and it's worked well enough that I've not explored looking closely at any others.

I think in general, the only way I would buy ANY accessories from a Verizon store would be in an emergency. (Such as on travel, forgot charger, must have one now and Verizon store is right there and I have no better option.)

My Droid is naked but I have a vertical pouch I use. (Mainly because I have a cat that has been known to knock things off of my bedside table.) Whether you really need one or not and what kind depends on how you carry the phone. I don't like screen protectors and have not used one on other phones (Blackberries, etc.) and understand the glass on the Droid is sturdier than other devices.

can someone tell me if i can use my car charger that i used for the eris on the droid? itis a 'mini usb charging port' one....

The charger for the Droid is a MICRO USB charger, not the mini. So you'll either need a new charger or a mini-micro adapter which costs just a couple of bucks -- maybe someone can post a link or you can search.

just wondering -- when you are referring to the seidio innocase, are you talking about the 'seidio innocanse surface' (the ones on their website with all the colors)? is it hard to remove the case after putting it on (in case i get a MM deck from verizon)?

i want to keep mine naked but im not sure now.. anyone have any opinions on this? and if i dont keep it naked, i was thinking about invisibleshields or phantomskinz full body protection.. but how are these applied and are they any good? ... or should i just get the seidio case...

im assuming the boxwave (after reading so many posts) is the best screen protector so i'll probably get that one.

feedback thx. only a few more days till i get a droid :X
