I'm new to Android

Just got a new Droid for Christmas, and (after having little experience with Android [just the leaked emulator]) I found it to be really enjoyable. Hundreds of apps and tweaks from rooting to widgets to hacker tools like Terminals, it astounded me.

I have one question, though.
When I turn on Silent mode, it does not just...not play a tone when I receive a text. It plays a second and a half of silence, thus interrupting whatever I'm trying to do! I just want to know what I should do about this, because I get a lot of notifications, emails, Tweets, etc.

Overall, I love the Droid, and I think (in my humble opinion) it definitely is an iPhone killer. I've used iPhoneOS and it just seems primitive after using Android 2.0.1.
