Help Is there a reason some apps wont exit, quit, end?

This is one approach to a solution...

A lot of apps for the DROID, or any smart phone for that matter, are meant to run in the background. That's how they give you updates, reminders, notifications, and so on. Also, the Android OS is very good at managing these apps. But, like you, I don't like a lot of needless apps running in the background. And, I don't like apps notifying me. I'll ask WHEN I want notified, thank you very much. ;)

My suggestion: Install Advanced Task Killer Free. That app lets you kill running apps, as well as itself. I don't let Advanced Task Killer load on startup, nor do I let it run all the time. But once in awhile, I fire it up, kill any unwanted apps, then go about my day.

Maybe this will work for you...

Thanks Joe - You got it !! Actually I did resort to ATK - expect that in the future there will be extensions or a few more Standards and that terminting app will be one - especially for apps that push/pull or whatever !!

Dabrador, the issue is not about memory managemnet or whatever - but that you should be able to control when you want the app to run. As an example, when I want to twitter w/seesmic, I want to refresh alot ! But If I dont want to twitter I dont want the notifications constantly appearing. The same for SportsTap - a great app - but after Ive gotten my use - I dont want to hear from it anymore !!

Thanks all

Seconded. This is exactly why I keep a task killer around, to free up memory when I need to. I'm not about to keep it running, because that's sort of counter-productive when you're using it to NOT have things running.

I think I saw someone post that these application need to run in the background to recieve updates and notifcation. Well of that was the case, then why is it that Pandora Radio app has (and is the only app) a QUIT built into it, and I still get my updates? I think the Android Market should force developers to put a "QUIT" or "END" in the application to free up memory and processes. Plus some people would like to have the opition to have a fresh start.
