Note taking app (sync with gmail)

There are many note taking apps but I am looking for one that e-mails me the note to my own gmail account as soon as the note is created.

Some note taking apps have this feature. For example, AK Notepad has a "share" button that allows you to open up gmail and e-mail the contents of the note to anyone. This is pretty much what I want but the problem with AK Notepad is that to send myself the note I need to do the following:

1. Create the note
2. Select menu
3. Select "Share"
4. Scroll to "gmail"
5. Gmail pops open - enter in contact information (in my case it would be username+notes@gmail.com)
6. Send e-mail.

I want an app that essentially skips steps 2-6. I want it so that AS SOON as a note is written it is automatically sent to my gmail as an email.

Does such an app exist?

Why don't you just create the note as an email to yourself from the start.

Open gmail, select yourself as the recipient, type the note, press Send.

That is what i currently do, but, I also like having the notes as a list offline on the android phone.

So, I would like a dedicated app as well.

I actually tried it out and I think all it does is allow you to sign in with your gmail account. It does not actually say anywhere that it syncs with gmail. It says it syncs notes "to the web" and that you can "sign-in with your Google account". I think the "sign-in with your Google account" just means that you don't need to create a separate 3banana account.

Thing is what AK Notepad does is ideal, except the number of steps it takes makes me just not want to do it. Sure it's only about 10 extra seconds but I create a lot of notes during the day and it would be helpful if I didn't have to manually mail them to myself each time.

Why not just use an online web todo list, such as tadalist.com. You can make a note on your phone, then get it from a webpage on your computer and vice versa. You can mark items done, delete them, etc.

No gmail account required, no email at all, no special software on the Android.

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually there are a number of apps that do something like this. Evernote, Remember the Milk, there are even apps that sync with google tasks.

The thing is before I had my android phone (and I guess before all these "task" applications became prevalent) I used to create my notes by sending myself e-mails (username+notes@gmail.com). I would filter all these mails into a "Notes" label and I had a repository of all my notes. I want to somehow continue this trend, but, at the same time maintain a local list of notes. I know this is really strange and far-fetched. Just looking to see if something like this exists.

Maybe AK Notepad may shorten the send process

OK, I see.... how 'bout this:

Create a shortcut to yourself on the desktop, and select the gmail account to which you wish to send the note (HomeScreen:LongPress:Shortcuterson:...)

Anytime you want to make a note, click on the Desktop shortcut, type the message in, and send it.

So you still have the label issue, which you apparently can't set on the Android before you send, though you can set the label after you send it.

You could use a gmail filter on the PC to automatically label all messages sent from your phone to that gmail account with a label. Or, if you don't use stars for anything else, after you send from the Android, you could Star the email so you can identify them that way.

This may seem complicated but isn't actually too bad once you settle on a way. It doesn't get you quite what you had before, but I think it's close.

Have you tried Gdocs? It's similar and syncs with your google docs.

Yes - I was going to suggest the same...Gdocs lets you create notes on your phone, and then one-click upload to your Google Docs account.

So you have them local and online. That's what I use now. It's text only going from the phone to Gdocs online.

You can also add notes to Google Docs from your PC, and see and/or download them to your phone.

Works well...

The shortcut idea seems like a gem actually. I already have a filter set up to label (and archive) my notes.

I've made a new contact on my phone (T-Mobile Pulse running v1.5) with the email address as "_my_email_addy+notes@gmail.com" but attempting to email that contact using the shortcut, it strips out the "+" so the email doesn't get to my account.

Anyone else have the same problem or is it just another peculiarity of Huawei's poor adaptation of Android?

For reference:

Gmail doesn't offer traditional aliases, but you can receive messages sent to your.username+any.alias@gmail.com. For example, messages sent to jane.doe+notes@gmail.com are delivered to jane.doe@gmail.com.

Yes I just created the shortcut today and noticed. It's really strange. I am a heavy user of this "alias" feature.

I am actually on a HTC Magic (Android 1.5) which I have upgraded to the Sense UI (which came packaged with Hero). HTC had provided this upgrade on their website.

I had a shortcut to "Person" and search for my contact which is "Notes" and e-mail address: username+notes@gmail.com. The "+" is stripped when I try and use the shortcut.

I think the problem is that the Android team is completely separate. It seems odd that there is no dedicated Google Reader app or the fact that google talk in android cannot receive calls.

INotes from google store. in settings enter your gmail username and pw. This will sync current and future gmail notes with your android, and all future notes made through the app with gmail.Hope this helps

Being that I already had Dropbox, I use it to communicate between my myself and myself:

On the PC side, create a new text file in the Dropbox root folder. I named mine SWAP, but the name doesn’t matter, as long as it’s one you remember. Enter some text there and save. Then, on the Droid side, launch Dropbox, find that file and open it... there’s that text.

I’ve posted requests here for a PC & Droid sync sticky note setup, but never found one that worked any better than my dopey Dropbox kludge.

NetMemo on Android allows you to click its app ONCE and it begins to record audio (and clearly/loudly as well - great for conversations/meetings!). Since you can set NetMemo to automatically STOP recording AUTOMATICALLY (at a predetermined length - 30 to 120 seconds, or endless), and simply, on its own, send that recording to your PRE-SET E-mail address. Your choice of receiving mp3 or wav file. I generally receive the recording in 2 - 10 minutes, depending on traffic. Fantastic app!
