Awww Come On...

That's your first post? ... really? A frowny face with the title: "Awww Come on..." ???

How about, "Battery at 60% this morning, was charged last night"? Then follow that with an explanation of what happened. Just throwing ideas out there. Crazy stuff ... I know. That might get a better reaction out of the helpful folks at android forums. :)

To the matter at hand ... two questions: 1) Did you use the OEM charger? 2) Did you see that it was at 100% last night before turning it off. Or did you just assume it?

Hahahahaha. I enjoyed reading that.

Last night I fully charged my phone and then powered it off. This morning I power on the phone and the batter indicator shows 60 %.... Your kidding me, that's it ?? I have had this phone for about 3 weeks and have "conditioned" the battery.
Contrary to popular (or maybe not popular...) belief, "conditioning" does not provide any benefit to battery life.

I'm not sure if this is a complaint about the battery life draining quickly when the phone is off or if it's a complaint about not the battery not charging when the power is off.

And oh yeah I put a frowny face on my post :).

Something isn't right, if you had a definite 100% charge and turned it off overnight then you should have had basically 100% when your turned it back on. Did you by chance hit the power button but not actually select Power Off on the menu that comes up? That would kill the battery being left in that state, if not then either you didn't have a 100% charge OR your battery is defective.

Gotta check and see what apps are running at night - updating or syncing while you sleep. Is it Searching for wifi all night? Checking your location with the GPS? Syncing with Google Reader?

I have an app called Advanced Task Manager. Every now and then I check it to see what is running. I adjust the refresh rate for my emails, my RSS reader, Weather, etc. to the lowest setting (to refresh manually, or once an hour, or whatever).

I also have Timeriffic that shuts down my wifi at night. I have the option to set it to Airplane mode, if I want to. Try another app called Quick Settings, play around with the options and see if it makes a difference.

Don't worry - you'll get the hang of this!

^^^ He indicated that he powered it down before going to sleep so it should have been doing none of that.

Agreed.

sneakin, to give you something to compare to last night I charged mine to 100% (I've been playing with battery life on my device in different situations) and then unplugged it leaving the power on. I had WIFI, GPS, and sync all on and the screen off. When I woke up 6 hours later my battery meter reported 80%. At this moment in time my meter is reporting 60% after being off the juice for 9hr and 39min with light to moderate usage for the last 3 hours. I have not conditioned my battery. With it powered off completely it should have been very near 100%.

I'll give powering it off a shot tonight and see what happens.

Agreed! I charge mine to 100% and it still says 100% 8 hours later if I haven't used the phone, and that's with a couple of small apps running in the background, like Weather Channel.

Thanks guys for your input....starting to think my battery may need replacement. I have the power control widget and have everything turned off. I have also made sure that there are no un-necessary apps running in the background. Wifi and gps are always turned off. When I powered up the phone this morning it showed 60% and I have made one call on it so far. Battery is still showing 60%.

Have you tried Restarting the Phone?

I think I see where Joe is going with his suggestion- determine if the battery alone is too blame, but I respectfully say: Whats the point? Your phone seems to be losing power at a much higher rate than normal regardless. Maybe there are some exceptions but the average Verizon store employee probably couldn't care less about your careful investigation into the problem and any trial and error troubleshooting methods, especially this time of year. I would be following my normal routine (since this is actually how you use the phone) and if it repeats itself, head to the nearest corporate store with the realistic hope that they replace the entire device.

Again, no disrespect to you and your suggestion Joe. I just may have a little less patience than you do.

It would show you the difference between the phone sucking too much power or just a shoddy battery. Would suck to get a replacement phone and find out it has something wrong with it, when it was just a funky battery.

Oh I understand completely, but given the severity of the issue I'd prefer a total replacement. Maybe thats just me but I'd already be annoyed about a battery drain issue, I definitely would want it handled asap and without a potential second visit to the store.
