someone please write this call screen app

... for phones without a proximity sensor.

I'm one of those people plagued with unintentional hangers and such while on a call from ear and cheek contact. I've been using the 'proximity sensor' app, which Is way better than nothing but still far from Ideal. It takes several seconds to lock the screen, during which time my ear can still do bad things. It doesn't work well In low light. It sometimes doesn't work at all in bright sunlight. And using the keypad, like during an automated menu, can be awkward is the prop sensor keeps flipping from locked to unlocked and back. Not dissing the app writer... fantastic idea implemented about as well as possible given the hardware (HTC hero).

So here's the idea, first proposed by another poster on this forum, burried in another thread, and not given the attention it deserves...

When a call Is Initiated or answered with the call button, immediately swap the screen to one with only a few sliders and nothing else. One, perhaps on the bottom, to hang up. Another to bring up the keypad, and another to bring up the default phone screen so that you can get to the home screen, start a three way call, etc.

Also, when another call comes In when you are already on the phone, the pulldown statusbar needs to be disabled. Instead, it would be nice if one of the spiders changed to 'swap' of If an additional slider popped up with that option. This app needs to be fast... fast to take over the Instant a call is In progress, and fast to go away as soon as the call ends.

Yeah this isn't a hard thing to write, but as always, how many people are gonna use it if I put the time in to create it?:

1) If a lot of people need it, I'd offer it for free.
2) If not that many people need it, I'd sell it for 99 cents, but if only 17 people will ever buy it, it's not worth it.

I would be more then willing to pay for this app. Even if it was as basic as just a "slide" to end call. I know 6 other people with heros (4 in my family) who would also pay for this. If free, even better. Let us know if you are wanting to move forward with this. I wish I knew how to create apps. Thanks!

I looked into it a bit, I don't think it's possible to intercept the incoming call and present your own third party activity instead of the native call handler. For example, installing a third party call handler wouldn't delete the native app - so when you get a new phone call - in the best case, the system would ask you which app you want to use to accept the call - would be really awkward and I guess it makes sense if they really block that behavior. Sorry.
