Why I'm returning my Droid Eris

1. the battery actually does well if you use it right, if you are not getting good battery life take it back and get a new phone....most of us get a day easy out of our phones with good use

2. um, any smartphone is going to need a data plan, so yeah, if you want a smart phone dont be cheap

3. if you needed self reflection and thought of yourself as an elitist or a tool because you have a smartphone you're probably are a tool without a smartphone.....i am no elitist, most here i woud think are not elitist, just people, with smartphones. they come in handy for the obvious reasons, and not so obvious reasons too.

i was just at my wifes families christmas eve party a few days ago. my wifes uncle is an inventor and he was talking to her cousin about ideas for his aeronautical engineering final. he mentioned the hiller flying platform, he went to get a book or something about it and came back empty handed. i did a quick google search on my phone as i stood there talking to them, drinking a beer, it pulled it up and he got to show the young man what he was talking about. no one thought i was a tool, or an elitist, they just thought it was kinda cool that i could get that, that fast, with my phone.

4. if all you want your phone to do is text and call then why did you even buy a smartphone? the educated consumer is a happy consumer.

lastly, the screen is glass, not plastic....have a nice day.

If I read something like this before I bought the phone, I wouldn't have had to suffer the last month.
Wow I feel so sorry for you, that terrible suffering...just terrible.

Amazing though, there are a ton of other people who happen to like the phone. Should they have listened to your rant and never bought the phone?

And oh geez, there are similar threads in the Samsung Moment forum, in the Droid forum, and non-Android forums as well about the Pre, the iPhone. Geez, maybe you and we would be better off if we never bought any phones?

End the suffering!!!! yea!!!! No phones for you!!!

Its a cell phone!!!! Suffer the last month? Come on man, if this phone is the worst thing going in you life I envy you.
Sometimes I think the worst thing about Android is the whiny users who whine and cry every chance they get.

I'd love to return my Android phone so I wouldn't hear that stuff. But the problem is, almost every other phone has such whiners as well. Truly sucks.

Thats the thing ... every phone has whiners, and every phone has its issues. There are people who have returned 2 or 3 (and sometimes 4) phones because of this issue or that issue. Give me a break, no cell phone is perfect ... and never will be. Pick the phone that is best for you and move forward, we dont need to know why you made the choice.

exactly, if you want attention go yell fire in a crowded theater or shark at the beach, no need to waste your time and ours by signing up here and whining about a phone, then making sure everyone who has the phone knows they are dumb for having that phone, then saying you never wanted a smart phone in the first place.

This OP gets extra points because he actually signed up to rant. His username "BuhByeEris" is very indicative of what his purpose is on this board. Pretty sad really. Most people would be too busy to go that extreme effort for a phone.

Bye Bye - BuhBye HEre is a phone suggestion for you. Long battery life, everything works with no issues. No complaining to HTC, Motorola, Samsung, LG or any of those "name brand rip offs". Just perfect.

Smartphone Culture:
I hate people who are all hokey on technology. Yes, the internet is great, yes, cellphones are great, but no, they are not the greatest thing life has to offer. In the short weeks I have had my phone I noticed myself pulling up the internet in groups of people, relying on the knowledge of the web when I wanted any bit of information, and overall looking like a tool. Everytime I see someone with a smartphone, I feel they are an elitist. I know some people use these things as business tools, but those are few and far between in today's society. Most people use these things as glorified toys and frankly, it is not a club that I feel is worth being a part of. The thought that I was becomming a fanboy who was constantly telling people who couldn't give a shit about my newest apps and all the cool things my phone can do made me fall into self reflection. What type of person do I want to be and why should I let my cell phone dictate that in any means whatsoever. At the end of the day, I want my phone to call and text. If I need something more, I have a computer waiting at home for me. Mobile internet is not a train I'm ready to board.
Hmmm...First- troll, or simply someone with attention issues? Judging by your other posts (all six of them negative) I'd have to say a combination of both.

Second, what did you expect? Did you buy the phone without any idea that it had internet access? I assume once you found out, you were unable to contain yourself and found yourself pulling up the browser compulsively, with no way to control your rampant desire to access the internet? If you found you were spending too much time on the internet on your phone certainly this is your fault, not a character flaw possessed of everyone with a smart phone.

Elitist? Because smart phone owners like toys, technology, or simply want to have access to information at will? I remember some friends of mine taking a similar tone with me when I got my first email address. Of course, they would laugh at that now. Why would one consider a person who is using convenient access to information an elitist. Did people consider Johannes Gutenburg and elitest because he developed the printing press? There probably were those who did.

And lastly, don't you find some irony in your apparent declaration that the smart phone crowd is somewhat beneath you?

P.S. everyone needs to see Avatar in Imax if they haven't yet. It will blow your mind across the back of your seat. (Just make sure your eris is in your pocket, that plastic screen might melt)
One more note of irony from you I think. James Cameron is about as big of a technological front runner as you'd ever want to meet, I think. He pretty much invented CGI didn't he? You could probably make the argument that without his vision and innovation cell phone technology wouldn't look the same as it does today.

Oh and I'm pretty sure the phone's screen is glass.

I love my ERIS, it works for me, that is why I bought it. Yes it has a few things I wish were different, but overall it's a great phone.
I use it in the ER when I need to cross check a medication interaction or double check a pediatric med dosing
I use it to keep track of my e-mail, sports scores, IMs from my wife (I use IM so as to avoid the text fees, since she is the only person I ever IM), show pictures of my kids to people that ask, keep music files that I play through my car as well as using pandora played through the car stereo, so no satellite radio fees. If you want to start adding up cost, I can justify saving more money than you say you are losing. I got two for $49 after my 2 year rollover from verizon, how much cheaper can they be?
And honestly, I have not found the battery life to be a huge issue. Sure it is not as great as my BB 8130, but there are these things called CHARGERS!!! All you do is plug one into your wall outlet, computer or car and BOOM - like magic the battery charges! It's an ERIS miracle.
But seriously, I left my wife's unplugged overnight last night (about 10+ hours by my estimate)...this morning it still had about 80% charge still left.
The big problem for me is the lack of accessories for the ERIS - but this will come with time just like it does for all new technology.
And finally, it's a phone....relax already geez.
Your entire post seems to be a huge cry for attention. Just take it back if you don't like it.

Most people would be too busy to have several hundred posts on an internet forum in less than two months.

Damn. Some of you posters are brutal.

I do not think the battery is a reason to return this phone. All smartphones have issues with battery life. I have preserve battery life by making sure that I am only running wifi when in the house and only mobile network outside of the house. I also limit the amount of use for Pandora or Slacker Radio. Since doing that my Eris has been performing well. I also delete cache information from my apps once a week and I have recalabrated the levels on my phone once and that helped with switching from landscape to portrait.

I think some of the more senior posters should offer help than bash a person for finding this forum and making a statement that you, senior poster, may not agree with. It will help with positive owrds being spread about the forums here and attrack a higher caliber of members.

Well, Buh Bye.

Sorry to see you go; seem's like we barely knew ya!

When you select a different phone, you might want to consider the newly released HTC Cydoimus

This baby can't be customized at all, and only has one button: an Answer button. I guess HTC calls this a receive-only cell phone. There isn't even an End button - only the caller can decide when the call is over.

That will save you a lot of confusion - nothing to learn but the one button, but you will have to figure out how to charge it from time to time.

Sorry guys but I returned my HTC Eris back to Verison tonight. There are just too many problems with the Droid operating system in its present state.

Simply put! They are just not there yet with Droid system. You should not have to download apps to correct all the issues with the Eris design and Droid operating system. I can't speek for the Moto Droid but read it has issues as well.

Other than some dropped calls the I-phone is overall a much more prefected touch screen phone than the Eris or Moto droid not only in its operating system but in the overall physical design of the phone and its functions. Horizontal swipe bar to unlock, recessed return button, great YouTube video quality, great camera, easy to ready text, ect.........

I went back to my old Blackberry phone. Maybe the Web on the Blackberry is not as good as the Eris but it does all the other things better and with little to no problems. :p

Jape.......
