Root Can't Switch to a Different SD Card on a Rooted Desire

alright, I have already rooted my HTC Desire and now i want to switch from an 8-gb sd card to a 16-gb one. I tried whatever way i could think of, but it just won't work. Does anyone know how to go about doing that?

One way i think it would work is to unroot my phone and then re-root it with the new sd card, but i just don't know what version of rom to download in order to unroot the phone.

I'd rather do it without going through unrooting process, but if that's then only way i could get my new sd card to work, it's ok.

I just copied all my files from old SD card to the new one and it worked fine. Was a while ago but can't remember having any problems.

were you using apps2sd at the time? because i'm using that app on my phone and apparently this gets part of the rom involved with the sd card to save some internal memory (correct me if i'm wrong). that's why when i just copy my files to the new sd card it doesn't work.

it's solved. i reinstalled my rom without partitioning my sd card and then simply switched the sd cards and it worked.

Shaahinjj plz explain more. I have the same problem, switched my 4 gb to an 8 gb but all my app 2 sd apps are missing..

There are 2 "apps2sd" solutions: the original version for rooted phones and the version which came with Froyo. Since this is the root forum, it's likely that shaahinjjj was discussing the root version, which stores apps and data in an ext partition on the card. If you don't know about partitioning and haven't rooted I guess you are talking about the Froyo version, which stores apps on the normal (fat32) partition of the SD card.

Since the Froyo one stores everything in the fat partition, which can be read by a PC, I'd have thought that as long as you copied all of the files from your old card onto the new one it would work. All does mean all though, including files and directories starting with "." (don't know whether Windows treats those differently, but in unix/linux those are hidden files). Unfortunately I didn't even have Froyo when I last changed SD card, so don't know for sure that there isn't some other subtlety to it, but unless something depends on absolute locations within a card (which would be an odd thing to do) I can't see why it shouldn't work.

Otherwise, do you have enough space to move all of your apps from SD to phone? If you did that temporarily, swapped cards, then moved them back, that should also do the trick.
