Browser question

Just a real quick poll here regarding the native browser for the Hero....

I've read and heard many times that the Hero stock browser loads pages as fast, if not faster, than the iPhone Safari browser.

My question is this, even when I am on a STRONG WIFI signal, and can get speeds using Speedtest.net's app around 2300 mbps download, the page will do an initial load (about 3/4 loaded) and then hang for a good 10-15 seconds before it finishes loading. This is for most, if not all, webpages I browse to, whether it has flash on it or not.

Has anyone else had this happen, or do you all get pretty quick load times?

I don't have much background with the mobile safari app., I have read that it has compression characteristics much like that of Opera's Mini browser.

The HTC browser, while I still believe to be among the best, doesn't compress the data as much as the aforementioned apps. do. The HTC browser also has limited Adobe Flash support which may contribute to marginally slower web site loading times.

Something else to consider: Many web sites that don't support a mobile or WAP structure have invisible embedded traffic logs that are most times developed with Flash. While this file is incredibly small, your HTC browser will still try and load it while other browsers completely disregard that specific cluster of code.

I checked the market and could not find the safari browser. Do they offer it for the hero? I installed opera and dolphin. heres my take: dolphin doesnt seem to be much faster than the hero browser, but opera mini is a bit faster...but it sux. When you type in a web address the text disappears to the top and there is no pinch zoom. bonk. I'd like to try the safari browser. it seemed nice on my ipod touch.

No, you won't find it for the Android platform unless I've overlooked some sort of botched emulator out there.

Stick with the HTC browser for now. With no offense toward any Dolphin, Steel, etc. browser enthusiasts out there, I believe the HTC browser to offer the best all-around performance when it all averages out.

With the new 2.1 update coming some (yeah, hopefully), I'm quite positive you'll see a substantial improvement with web browsing from the stock browser.
