Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Does Not Work 100%

I have been using my Eris now for about a month and love it. One thing I have found that I do not like about it is the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync program that is pre-loaded on the phone. I loved it at first until I tried to respond to an email and compose an email. It does not work 100%!!! I can receive emails, calender events, and calender alerts but can not send or respond to emails. I called Verizon and HTC tech support and they both determined it was not the device so it had to be my Exchange serve at work. I told them that I work in the IT department where I work and it could not be settings on the server. I checked this out before calling them. I see some people have this same problem and some do not. I ended up trying "free" for 14 days an app called RoadSync Mail/Calender. It sends and responds to emails now problem. The only problem I have with this app is that it cost $ after 14 days and it does not push me email 100% of the time. More like 97%. One of the main reasons I got this phone was the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync feature. And because I love Google products.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions?
I have been told about "Touchdown" but that is like $20.
Why does the program that came with the phone not work ????????
Any info would be greatly appreciated !!!!! :D

I looked and all of the emails are sitting in my "Outbox" not "Sent".
Anyone else have this problem?
Did you get it to work without and app?
Any info would be greatly appreciated !!!!:D

had the exact same problem. I could receive, but not send. Had everything to do with my security settings on my exchange server. You have to allow for security packets to the phone. See this link. Makes it perfectly clear.

Guide- Configuring Exchange ActiveSync This Android Life

I have no problems now that my IT guys changed the security as an exception for my email address.

The HTC Eris Droid (I have this) and the Moto Droid (someone at work has this one) will not work with my company Exchange server either. We require the pin, SSL, auto-retrieve certificate and not sure what else. They didn't tell me what all was missing in the default mail program. He found Touchdown worked on the Moto. I installed it on the Eris and it works great. We both bought it when it was on sale. The push works, the calendar works, sending email works :) You can test it for 5 days and decide if you like it. It's a pretty nice program. For me, the Touchdown Exchange push is instant, just a couple seconds. With gmail, it takes about 4-7-10 mins, it seems like 7 on average for me.

That's funny, since I commented about slow gmail alert, I just tested it and got in in 40 seconds this time.

Well come to find out we do have a 4 digit password. That is probably also why our company has now chosen to not support any devices other than an iPhone or BlackBerry. I guess thanks to my call.
They told me those devices have no problems at all.
So I guess I will have to rely on an app to help me out for now. The IT guy I spoke to said they may help me out by disabling the 4 digit password but they said not to hold my breath.
Still trying to figure out how an app gets around the 4 digit password.
Any more info would be greatly appreciated.:D

I don't think they get around the 4 digit password but instead support it. Sounds like the stock sync software in the Eris doesn't support any kind of security policy. Kind of ridiculous IMO. As I mentioned before, I've not heard of any Exchange admins allowing you to sync without enforcing some type of password and security policy. I guess I'll be taking a look at Touchdown when I get my Eris.

Touchdown supports using a PIN. The default HTC mail app does not support using a PIN. When I setup Touchdown it has me select a PIN. When you run the program, it will ask you to enter the PIN at startup and every once in a while. You can also change your PIN if you like. On the main Touchdown app screen, where you have the icons, you will see a circle Icon on the lower right, that's is a fast way to click to Enable/Disable Push. I like to use it to quickly turn it off at night when I don't want to read email and get tired of the constant beeping from new alerts.

I use Touchdown and I get constant beeping of new email throughout the day. Everytime I test it, send myself an email, I get the alert in 2-20 seconds. I haven't checked close enough to notice if 1 alert was missed for a while, but I don't think it's missed. You can always test it for 5 days to see how it works for you.
