The I got 2.2 from T-mo Thread ...

I may have moved on from the Slide to the G2 but I still own the Slide (my GF is currently using it while she waits for the Vibrant 4G) and I am so irritated with T-mobile over the blatant lies and deception over it.

When I bought this piece of sh*t I was told "it will launch on eclair and would soon receive froyo". Bullsh*t! I have since seen newer devices launch with the same UI running froyo (mytouch 4G) and phones with less power (mytouch 1 & 1.2) be updated to froyo.

Meanwhile we wait..........

and wait........

and wait........

Meanwhile Samsung updated the Vibrant to Froyo..... go figure.

I, for one, have been mostly pleased with the Slide, except for wishing it had more available internal memory. Of course I would like to receive Froyo but I would prefer that all the bugs are worked out first.

I was just wondering...has T-Mobile ever made an "official" statement that the Slide would receive the update, or have they just been rumors from the beginning?

I thought it was official, but that they were releasing it for the myTouch 3G (done) and then the the mTouch 3G 3.5mm jack and then the Slide. Has the 3.5mm jack gotten the Froyo update yet?

Mytouch Slide - update currently on tmobile servers (could be released in as few as a couple weeks)
Mytouch 4G (update from 2.2 to 2.2.1) - done

three mytouches down...one to go!

The slide ota DOES exist (it is a test-keys version and not flashable) though it is not being pushed out. There is even a dev (chiefzreloaded) on xda working on making it into a flashable rom. But like I said before the build has issues discovered by tmobile regarding wifi and going by chiefz twitter feed he is running into wifi issues with the build as well.

If this release was legit I'd consider that official. I doubt they have more than a few people working on it, and they're probably not even working on this exclusively. I kind of wish they'd never announced the wifi calling. I have no need for it, and I suspect that if it wasn't for that part being buggy we'd all be enjoying Froyo already...

I also have no need for wifi calling. When I'm home I use my cell phone for phone calls..

i still dont understand y everyone knocks on samsung my friend just got the vibrant and just got 2.2 and its the best damn phone ive ever seen hd screen great ui i cant find anything at all wrong with it

Well lets see They have the Vibrant out and were holding onto the OTA of froyo (don't give me that crap about it being t-mobile's doing I only blame them for not pressuring companies into supporting their devices not physically witholding an update) and now that news broke on the Vibrant 4G (which is the same phone with HSPA 21 added) being released with froyo they send out the OTA....... oh and that Vibrant 4G still has broken GPS and will soon be replaced by whatever T-mobile renames the Galaxy mini (Highlight II?) and Galaxy S2 (Vibrant II?) and don't be shocked to see a Nexus 4G ala the Vibrant 4G soon...... and all before the Sidekick S drops toward the end of the year......... and all will no doubt be basically the same phone.

Is there something else that would have given me a message about a firmware update with buttons that say Update or Postpone? I didn't have time to do it so I hit postpone and it gave me an option of how long to postpone it, I chose 6 hours so I could do it when I got home from work.

Sorry if the message I received had nothing to do with 2.2

There are many reasons why you would get the notification. The most likely are:

-you still haven't gotten the MR update (the most likely)
-you are using a custom rom based off of the stock UI and are getting false notifications
-or it is an android update (this is what you are hoping for)

Only way to tell what the update is, is the software number of the update. when you do it look for the android version number and software number in the about phone settings menu (menu>settings>about phone>software information). If its froyo it will say:

Android version 2.2.1
Software version 2.13.531.1 or 2.15.531.1 (these are the two software versions of froyo for the slide)

Since it is likely just the MR release you should see:

Android version 2.1 update1
Software version 1.35.531.1

Though it is not likely that you received the OTA as it has not begun officially going out to devices, the update is in fact on OTA servers ready to be pushed any day now. Let us know what software you are on after you complete the update.

Well the leaked update for root devices works well with little to no ill effects. The problem is with sending the update ota, as the update in its first version (2.13...) downloads to a partition on the slide that doesn't have enough memory to process it. This along with minor issues should have been fixed in the second version (2.15...). Long story short, as I already posted in the update schedule, this should go out in as few as a couple weeks. I would not expect it sooner, although stranger things have happened. Its still a wait and see operation.

Is 2.15.531.1 better than 2.13.531.1?

Also is there a stock rom out there without root? In case my gf has to send the phone in? I forgot to do a nandroid

Stock 2.1? Just follow unrooting guide...theunlockr.com or I'm sure there is one on xda some where.
