Handed my rooted phone over to the Verizon guy...

Walked by a Verizon store at the mall and wandered in. Awhile back i remember some people posting about getting an extended life battery at a discoint after the froyo update. I figured id ask about it.

The guy asked to look at the battery so i gave him my phone not even thinking about it. He pulled the battery and looked at it then put it in an restarted it. He made a funny face when skyradier popped up nd wasnt to familar with launcher pro..... that pretty much killed my chances.

I keep a folder on my SDCard named "un-root" for times you never know. It has the PB31IMG.zip of the latest RUU to get back to stock recovery, and I have S-OFF file and S-ON file in there too. I've done the same thing before, luckily it was my bros friend working there haha.

I wasnt expecting much, but i do recall people claiming a discount on extended life batteries. The problem i have is it wont charge while in use, which sucks for road trips and such.He looked it up on their system and couldnt find any record of problems.
Who knows.
I've seen quite a few threads areound here about the inability of some car chargers to provide enough juice to support navigation; are you sure that isn't the problem?

There are other ROMs and kernels that go back to the pre-Froyo charging rate, I think - that might be an option too. It doesn't sound like a battery problem, really, although an extended battery will certainly help extend usage time. There are specs around here for what chargers will work - I want to say it's supposed to be 1 mAh instead of 0.5 mAh, but that might not make any sense since I wasn't paying much attention to those threads. There were a lot of them right after the update though.

That's a great idea. I do the same but with a rooted stock backup that is setup the way I like it just in case I need to look stock. As long as they don't go looking for my droid and cross bones or wireless tether app, I'm good.

I love going to kiosk's and any Verizon Wireless store I can go in to and showing off my phone. Not long ago I stopped by the corporate kiosk in our mall and 4 guys were standing around doing nothing so I thought I'd show them MIUI. They were amazed. While they had it, I dropped into recovery and recovered SkyRaider 3.5. I've come to realize that MOST, know nothing more than "Install ATK, it'll save your battery life" which is a crock of BS anyway. It's February, you only have the remainder of 2 1/2 months before it's out of warranty anyway. Have some fun and show off your phones!

Okay. This thread made me laugh.

1. If you went to any "Verizon Wireless" store or kiosk in the mall, it's an extremely slim chance that they are a corporate store. They are an authorized retailer. And as such, they can offer different prices on accessories, offer accessories that corporate stores can't, and do not have to honor any deals that Verizon offers. They are their own company who has the authority to sell Verizon Wireless products. That's all.

2. As far as having your phone rooted, yes, it voids your warranty. However, I'm actually surprised that the salesperson didn't know anything about it. Yes, a lot of Verizon Wireless' sales staff don't know anything about rooting. But, you might be surprised by how many not only do know about it, but also have their phone(s) rooted as well.

I agree that it might be handy to have a backup stock ROM to flash over just in case. But, I have an alternate suggestion. Try going to Best Buy Mobile. Some malls have one. Otherwise, just go to Best Buy and to the mobile department. A lot of times, they will honor any offer that Verizon has going on. In my experience, the employees there are more friendly. And, most of them have their phones rooted, so they don't care if yours is. As a matter of fact, a few of the employees I know here have even offered people to root their phone for them.

Note: Best Buy employees don't work for a commission. So, they usually aren't going to try and sell you a lot of crap or try and force you out the door if you're taking up too much of their time.

Okay. Sorry for that little rant. I do hope that this helps a little.

Some corporate stores operate kiosks. There is one in my local mall (and there main stor'e is across the parking lot from the mall, which I'd also accept as "at the mall"). And here's a good way of telling the OP was at an actual corporate store. They looked at his phone...3rd party reseller wouldn't do that. They aren't "trained" (ok, I'd argue that the instore corporate guys aren't really trained either) and don't get any money from Verizon or HTC to provide service, so they don't provide any service.

There is no way they will do that. Best Buy doesn't provide service in house. And if you walk in with story a store about Verizon offering a free battery, they'll want proof (which you don't have). It will seem VERY obvious that you're making things up, since if Verizon WAS offering a free battery you'd just get it from them. And they don't care that your phone is rooted because they don't provide warranty service.

And even though Best Buy employees don't earn a direct commission, they still get pressured to up sell. Employees who do a good job pushing their horrible protection plan (read up on that elsewhere) and accessories get more hours, rewards, etc. Employees that don't get their hours cut. Granted, it's still far better than any other electronics store (and you can use that to try and get deals on phones if you offer to buy accessories as well).

I did say that it was a slim chance. The main reason that there are so few corporate kiosks is because Verizon usually has a corporate store in close proximity to malls. As far as authorized retailers "looking" at your phone, yes, some will. As an authorized retailer, they set their own policies regarding what type of support services they provide. Also, different authorized retailers provide varying levels of training to their employees. Now, while most stop at just sales, some will do simple services.

As far as honoring the Verizon sale, he said "discount", not "free". I may have used the wrong word. Best Buy will sometimes "match" offers from other companies. At no point did I say that they will take your word for it. I apologize for thinking that most people already know that any company who offers price matching will require proof. I thought that was pretty common knowledge.

As far as in house service goes, Best Buy does offer some. If you have their insurance policy and your phone cannot be repaired, they do not give you a refurbished phone (one of extremely few things that are better in their insurance). Instead you get a new one out of the box(Obviously, this depends on why your phone needed to be repaired). Also, please note that I did not say that Best Buy will root your phone. I said that a few of the employees that I know will. These guys are friends of mine and take their laptops with them to work (The mall can be pretty slow at times). Obviously, Best Buy employees doing this is extremely rare. So much so, that my friends may even be the only ones who do this. Who knows for sure?

Yes, this is true. At least we agree that it is still far better than going to a commissioned store.

Somehow you're just NOT as smart as you THINK you are. I suppose the "corporate store" sign over the Kiosk says it's not "an authorized dealer". There are two other kiosks in the mall that are "authorized dealers". I've dealt with them in the past. The corporate store around the corner sends customers to that kiosk when they are packed out the door. PROBABLY NOT as slim of a chance as you think it is unless it's in some po-dunk town. In any metropolitan area it's pretty common. Before you belittle and feel like you are smarter than others, might want to check your facts.
