I have an OG Droid and I'll be going to Puerto Rico for the month of March. What do I need to know or do regarding phone, data, e-mail, or texting. If you've "been there, done that" please pass on some advice. I'd ask Verizon, but honestly, I've never got the same answer twice from them. Thanks in advance.

keep your phone in Airplane mode and just use WiFi.

I didnt use phone, data, texting while in Thailand and just stuck to doing what I could via WiFi, which I could jump on free in most towns or at my hotels or guesthouses.

I called VZW before leaving and had my phone put on hold for a month, $15 fee, but that beat the normal monthly rate for a phone I would not be using to make calls or text, just wifi. That also made sure I could not accidentally use the phone in some way and incur those massive international usage rates.

Thailand is no where near the same as Puerto Rico. All the people on this forum and no one has been to Puerto Rico? Imagine that. Oh well, my plan now is to call Verizon at least 5 times and see if I can get 2 or three customer service reps to give me the same answer. Sorry to say I have little confidence (from previous experience) that any of the 5 will give me the right answers, so, when I get back I'll report to everyone the real scoop. Again, if there is anyone that has "been there, done that", I'd welcome they're suggestions. Thanks

first, your welcome

second, I will just recounting some useful general travel advice with these phones for traveling outside the USA. Clearly, I am well aware of the fact the 2 locations are in drastically different parts of the world, that goes without saying. But the practices may be the same depending on how you want to use your phone. good luck.
