Gingerbread Delayed for N1...Again?

Installed CM7 yesterday. Don't like being kept in the dark. I have run linux slackware for over 10 years now, I prefer to have control over the os that I use.

My personal opinion is.....if you have an N1 at this stage and have not rooted it and stuck on gingerbread you havent a clue what your missing.

Safe ?? lol?? Relax its fine! Live a little root!!

I have been using the CyanogenMod (CM7) since build #10 with no problems.

Am now on CM7 build #26 and it is slick and smooth with no video/playback problems and lots of extra goodies added.

For anyone thinking of changing to CM7, my advice is that you must wipe your SD card and phone memory before loading CM7 and then rebuild (not restore) your phone from scratch otherwise you may/will run into problems.

DO NOT TRY AND RESTORE A BACKUP FROM 2.2 or CM6.

i'll take the other cool, new stuff. however, it is the copy/paste improvements that will be the the thing i use on a daily basis.

Who needs it with a track ball? Position cursor, hold trackball, select enter selection mode, roll cursor to select text, hold trackball, pick copy.

My trackball is the one component of N1 that I am less than pleased with. I have to roll the ball crazy like to get the cursor to move, it should be one character per "click" but on mine I have to whip the ball to get the cursor to move. Mine might just be faulty as I have seen no one else complain.

Oh and Gingerbread copy/paste is the best!

My trackball is the one component of N1 that I am less than pleased with. I have to roll the ball crazy like to get the cursor to move, it should be one character per "click" but on mine I have to whip the ball to get the cursor to move. Mine might just be faulty as I have seen no one else complain.

Oh and Gingerbread copy/paste is the best!

I dealt with HTC repair before on another issue and it was awful, not everyone has my problems with them but once bitten twice shy.

But isn't your trackball issue really annoying. You don't seem like the shy type Snazzy When did you used the HTC warranty? I remember that the first couple of months, the HTC service was really bad...but it got better later on.

It was October last year. Short/long story is I sent it in for dusty screen and they refused to honour warranty because they claimed the water sensors were tripped and were not responsible to fix. After weeks of "escalation" I refused to pay the price of repair($400) so I asked them to return my phone UN-repaired but upon receipt and an unexpected shipping charge to my MasterCard my phone's mike was broken! So it was another three weeks of "We are not fixing your phone even if we broke it because the little red sticker inside says we don't have too."

When I called HTC corporate and asked for a customer relations manager I got some action and reluctantly agreed to $150.00 to have the screen and microphone repaired. I only agreed to pay because I wanted a working Nexus One and was frustrated as hell.

I see this week that Apple computer has changed their policy regarding these stupid "water indication stickers" and are now honouring warranty as they should.

I just read that ViewSonic plans to ship their ViewPad 4 with, wait for it, Gingerbread v2.4. That is correct, word is leaking out that a 2.4 release is due in April which will still be called Gingerbread. This might explain why we STILL do not have Gingerbread 2.3 without rooting and getting a custom ROM from someone other than Google.

I hope that's the case. People with the N1 should be one of the 1st to get 2.4 considering this is a google phone and they need to keep it up to date with the new ones coming out. It's not as if the hardware on the N1 cannot handle it.

Yeah, Google is so going to confuse the people that might look into Android phones if us regs are starting to get confused. Google should have stuck with a seperate naming convention for the Android tablet since it's different from Android phone

To be honest, after using 2.3 gingerbread (Cyanogen) for the past month on my n1, it really adds nothing useful other than better copy and paste. 2.3 is dead on arrival.

it's actually an improvement in UI... and a little in system speed ,can't say what's what until we get the full 2.3 from gugle ....and cyanogen hasn't got to full stable release yet

I think that's enough time to get the early adopters to jump from the Nexus One to the Nexus S. If another phone is released with Gingerbread or a Gingerbread OTA goes to another phone before the N1 gets it then I can say that I probably will not get another Nexus phone. After all, isn't getting the newest updates first (other than Vanilla Android) the main reason for having a Nexus?
