Wow!! Lots of questions! LOL Okay...let's start with this one first. There is soooo much you can do with LauncherPro (LP). For starters: You can create 7 home screens, compared to only 3 with your stock launcher (Canvas). When you first start your phone and click on menu your Desktop will be the first to show up. Click on menu and select 'preferences'. Then select LP Widgets. If you want your weather widget with the clock, select it from the choices in LP. Click on the settings for the widget and format it the way you want it. Go ahead and experiment. You won't hurt it!!! LOL

Also, if you had this running on your stock launcher it is still there and it is still running in the background. This will slow up your performance. The solution to this is to open up Titanium Backup and touch Backup/Restore, then select 'Canvas' ...then 'backup' ....then click Canvas again....click 'Freeze'. You will see that there is an option to restore it whenever you want. This is the easiest way to stop it and it will be there in case you want it back.

LP will give you the option of creating however many screens (up to 7) that you want. When you select 7, then you scroll sideways and a new blank screen will appear. Just long press to add whatever app icons (shortcuts) you want. Do this with each screen. I have my facebook widget on one and on another I have my calendar. I have three screens of apps. If you take a look at the Step by Step Instructions for Rooting thread you will see screenshots I took of my phone with LP . It doesn't look the same now as I had done more customization.

I don't use a task killer. I think when you freeze Canvas it will solve a lot of the probs you are describing.

Try what I suggested above and see if it helps you. Also, be sure to download a good Cache Cleaner: Cache Mate or Cache Cleaner NG
Clearing your cache is really important.

Go into each of the above apps and open. Then click on menu and uncheck 'start automatically' or whatever option it gives you. Look at the other settings and uncheck those that make it come on...eg: sign in automatically (for gtalk). There will be some apps that you see in your running processes that you need for everything to work correctly.

If you feel you need a task killer then keep it until you have everything running more smoothly.

Some apps will cause your programs to 'force close' more often. Try to see which of these apps is causing you probs and get rid of it if it isn't a stock app you need.

Hope this helps. Maybe someone else will come up with more info to help you!!!

:)
Actually the stock ascend has 9 home screens (at least mine does)

I don't have launcherpro (yet anyway) but there are tons of weather clocks and widgets on the market for free. Btw, what are the benefits of LP? The stock home seems fine. Anybody's comments are appreciated.

LauncherPro gives you the ability to customize your home screens in a way that the stock does not.

You will have smoother scrolling and more icon an dock options.

I'm not sure if the phone actually does perform better with LP but it definitely gives one the illusion of better performance.

It's very easy to work with and gives the appearance of having a new phone basically.

Any ways, I really like smart keyboard PRO. It has a lot of customizing options, like iphone/htc/android skins for the keyboard. You can make it transparent/translucent/ opaque, whatever you desire! :)

I like it too. :)

But I'm using Keypurr and Ultra. Keypurr is really different. They have a trial version until Feb 28th. You should try it just to see what I'm talking about.

Keypurr has a thread here too with a tech that answers questions. That's worth a lot right there! :)

I just tried it. It's certainly different! :) I actually wouldn't mind paying for the full version. It's deadly accurate!

Really? I love it too! Love the big keys and can't get over how amazing it is in prediction. You can save your passwords with the function keys too and makes it really easy!

Alright everyone, let's hear it. What are your top 5 favorite apps? Rooted or unrooted, doesn't matter (just remember to say if you are or are not rooted:))

My top 5 have to be:

Facebook
Twitter
GO SMS
TuneWIKI
MP3 Music Download

I am unrooted by the way.
:D

Is the "Twitter" app the best Twitter app for this phone? There are others out there like TweetDeck, etc. I have seen some pretty bad reviews on "Twitter". I do have a Twitter account but didnt know which version is the best out there for the Ascend.

Which version of Better Keyboard do I go with? Better Keyboard 7 or 8? And do I have to pay for the full version for it to be useful or can I just keep the free version and still be satisfied with it?

Not sure about that one. I tried better keyboard and didn't really like it, so I opted for the PRO version if Smart keyboard. I've heard good things about better keyboard though. As I recall, the difference between 7 and 8 is what version of android you have. Although, I could be wrong.

Hey Cards! Best way to find out if to try the free trial. LOL That's what I do. Actually the Twitter widget works pretty good for me. :)

Something I discovered a couple days ago on LauncherPro: Modify the number of rows, and number of columns. Go to Menu>Preferences>Homescreen Settings, you will find the two aforementioned options near the bottom of the list.

I personally love the ability to add columns, and now have 5 columns per screen without any reduction in icon size. I did find a caveat to raising the number of rows, however, and this is the fact that part of the name of each icon gets cut off.

Either way, for those of you who wished you could have more icons per homescreen, now you can!
