Lock screen replacement ??

I've searched through the threads and can't believe this isn't more requested.

Is anyone developing an app to replace the lockscreen? All I'd really like is the ability to change the wallpaper (why isn't this a default option??), and maybe the generic gray box.

I tried Lock 2.0 and would absolutely love (iphone convert here - love Slide to unlock!) it if it wasn't so buggy and bloated - sadly, looks like it'll never be updated.

And while I'm on the point, wouldn't it be nice to be able to have a numeric lock instead of the finger-swipe pattern? I understand some people like it, but I LOATHE it, and therefore do not secure my phone.

While I have no experience programming, I'd be more than happy to donate and help fund a project of this sort.

I hate the swipe and think it's redundant. I installed MyLockforAndroid and LOVE it. Just push the lock/power button like normal and it automatically does the lame ass swipe so you don't have to. It's not in the market but can be found on the Google pages.
question for ya, that sounds like something i would like to use. but does it also take off the "slide to answer" feature when your phone is locked in your pocket? i would think if it did you would always be "pocket answering"

i just got the droid so i'm not familiar with smarphones. if i download it off the internet how do i put it on my phone and use it? i know to connect it to my computer through the USB and drag it into the SD folder, but what do i do from there once its on the phone?

Glad you asked that question! I was wondering the same thing. I'm very new to all of this, and am learning a lot from these forums. Didn't even know there was a lock screen replacement, and would like a choice.

Why a lock screen at all. We have capacitive screens, so no problem if the device switches on in the pocket, it won't make a call itself (like a winmobile device would do). So a lpck screen with a code, ok, but just a lock screen makes imho no sense.

i like that it locks in my pocket because i ALWAYS seem to push buttons and such. But just pushing the power button would be enough for me. so i've downloaded the app from google, if i drag it on my SD card what do i do from there to get the app in my menu screen? does it just show up when the phone reads the card or what?

It can react to your legs through your pockets as well. I once put my phone unlocked in my pants (thinking it wouldn't do anything and when I took it out it was in the market downloading an app.

To run this, from your phone, go to this link to download MyLock Phase 2 (most recent) on the left side. Then, once it installs just click the line that shows it downloaded from the download screen. Click open and then 'yes' to activate. Easy as that. No need to involve a PC.

i thought i had to download it on the pc first, just like his directions type the url myLock for android in your phones browser, on the left it will say "download mylock 2. already did it and it seems to work pretty well!

Since starting the thread I've found "Lockbot" and it works great! It has three styles - iPhone, Hero, and Eclair, all of which are entirely customizable and able to be password protected.

I've noticed no excess battery drain, no lag, and no notification interruption. This is what Lock 2.0 hoped to be.

It even seems to start itself when the phone is rebooted, though there is a delay with that.

All in all, I couldn't be happier. The free version does pretty much everything, but I went ahead to support the dev and bought the Pro version for 2.50, which lets you change color and font of the clock.

EXTREMELY recommended.

If you want a lock screen that actually provides some useful info, you may want to check out our Executive Assistant app (Executive Assistant (Appventive)).

Preview gmail, missed calls, upcoming calendar events, SMS messages, and optionally Google Reader and/or Twitter feeds. Plus, host your favorite widgets. All without unlocking your phone.

Search for Appventive in the Market or scan the qr code in my profile to find it. We offer both a free, ad-supported version, and (for $1.99) an ad-free version.

If you do give it a try, please let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi all,

I was trying to install myLock for android but when installing I get the following error "Parse error - There is a problem parsing the package."

I tried to install the package using AppsInstaller, some other installer which name I can't now remember and even run the package straight from my SD, but it was a no-go.

Has anyone had similar experiences and what to do next?

This does have some promise. Although haven't played with it enough, at first I'm thinking that adding more options to make it more difficult to accidentally unlock the phone would be a nice option. Such as, still having the slidebar on the unlock screen, rather than just being able to press the homescreen button to unlock the phone.

I just released Smart Lock in the Martket. It dismisses the same lock screen like MyLockforAndroid and also has a really cool Child Lock feature. You can search for Smart Lock in the Market or scan the QR code at the end of this video: YouTube - Smart Lock Overview - Child Lock The video also explains Smart Lock a little more. I just released 2 days ago. Let know if you like the idea.

You can change the lockscreen wallpaper dead easily.
If you wanted a picture from the web, long press on it and save it to your photo album, or use a default picture already in your album -

Menu> Settings>Personalise>Lock Screen Wallpaper

I just spent a bit of time playing around with LockBot and Executive Assistant. The free version of LockBot switches randomly between the 4 styles, which is pretty darn annoying. Looks like it has to be paid for to get it to stick to a style and to let you choose the background image.

Executive Assistant has some nice features, but it seems to be a bit flaky. Sometimes, the stock lock screen appears, then E.A. appears. Sometimes, it skips the lock screen altogether and goes straight to the home screen when I press the power button. Sometimes, it works like you'd hope and pressing power goes straight to E.A.
