I got this update pushed to my phone today, supposedly it will fix that SD card issue. It came out a couple of days ago. My phone also happened to turn off by itself a few times before, so hopefully it will fix that too!

Anybody else have the issue with the phone turning itself off (even though it's fully charged)?

Do not accept update if you need root, are rooted or have a custom recovery.

There is a post saying to use the LG mobile support tool to update and you can root after update.
Here is the link...

Like SethTP said, DON'T accept this update if you are rooted. You risk unrooting your phone and there's a chance of permabrick if you flash a radio update with a custom recovery.

Nope just rooted. I do still have the Superuser icon but haven't tried anything yet. I did notice AFTER the update that my SD unmounted and mounted again. Maybe it was part of the update and it won't happen anymore. Also I noticed after the update, just didn't notice til after, that my Home button doesn't work. Could this be software related or hardware. It's obviously less than a year old so would that be covered under warranty or would I have to use insurance?

I'm glad I found this forum/thread as it explains two questions that I've had with my newish Optimus S. First and foremost, I got the 'bad sd card' message yesterday..i powered down the phone, took it out, put i back in then re-started and it worked fine.

Now just a minute ago, I got a notification that my phone would be shutting down to complete an update. I'm assuming it is the fix to prevent the sd card issue from reoccuring, android is still the same version as what was originally on here.

thanks all,

dave

Reboot fixed the Home button. Thanks again. NOW I'm having a lot of other problems! Phone is very laggy, apps like Handcent are force closing, everything takes more than one swipe or click and the phone is over all really slow! Root is gone and I can't get it back even though the Superuser icon is still there. Wish I never did this update! Anyway to get rid of the update?!

That's the problem with applying updates. There are temp files and data settings that were created before the update that cause problems after the update has been applied.

One thing to try is to go into your applications and clear cache (cache is where programs store temp work files). You can either do this for each app by going to settings-->applications-->Manage applications-->(select an app) Clear Cache. It's tedious going thru every app though so I use an app called cache cleaner since it finds all apps that have cache for you, you can then go into just the apps it finds and clear their cache.

Keep in mind that there's no guarantee that this will clean everything up because some settings are stored in data (along with all your programs and their settings).

After applying an update the only sure way I know of to get a clean system is back up your data, wipe data and do a hard-reset and redo the setup on the phone. I wish I had more info for you... hopefully someone else can provide more suggestions.
