how do you like the phone overall? i currently have an iphone 3gs im unhappy with and am dying to get an android device. im seriously considering this phone but havent seen too many reviews of it and am really turned off by the plastic screen and the fact that there is no official plan to make it 2.0+ upgradable. i was considering this or the nexus one, although i think the nexus looks amazing im not sure i can justify edge only. have you ever used an iphone, if so whats your thoughts comparing the acer and iphone?

What are you unhappy with the 3Gs? I own a 3gs, HTC Magic and tested the Liquid with the other 2 side by side since late Sept. Is the A1 better than 3GS, no - nothing cames close to the iphone for touch fluidity - none at the moment.

I love my 3GS, but I love gadgets and the Droid is nice, but I don't really like the service I'm getting with Verizon. I would get the Milestone from Brazil since it supports NA 3G, but they are currently going for $800-1000 and that it more than I'm willing to pay. The liquid is basically the only other option since I'm not crazy about the outdated hardware of the Telus Hero. I'm very tempted by the Liquid but concerned about no 850MHz 3G and not sure about the build quality....plastic screen for example.

theres things i like about the iphone but overall im just unhappy with it and feel that its more of an internet device than a phone since the phone functionality is where it lacks. the external speaker is absoletly worthless, i miss calls and texts all the time while the phone is in my pocket and speaker phone might as well not even exist on that phone. theres no customization what so ever, i would like a device that actually makes use of the lockscreen and homescreen(s) by displaying useful info (such as widgets). i also hate the notification system, if you get multiple push notiications they cancel each other out on the lockscreen so the only way of knowing you have a new notification is to scroll through all your pages of apps and look for the counter badges displayed over the apps icon. i feel androids notification system is 10x better and love how it organizes all your notifications in one easy acccess pull down menu. those are my biggest gripes with the 3gs, it browses the web great and plays music/videos well and although i do use my phone as my pmp, the overall phone functionality just kills the iphone for me, what good is having my phone on if the speaker is half ass and doesnt omit decent sound. im in the same boat as the previous poster, i dislike the hero due to its outdated processor and wouldnt want to give up my iphone for a more outdated, sluggish device, and at the moment the acer liquid is really the only big android competitor to the the 3gs when you compare specs, i also dislike slider phones and prefer all touch, so the milestone is out of the question. ive been patiently waiting for a decent android device to come out compatible with at&t but all i see is the sony xperia x10 which who knows when that will but out, and if at&t doesnt carry it im sure it will cost an arm and a leg unsubsodized. in what aspects do you feel the iphone is better than the acer?

The main issue I have with the iPhone is notifications and being able to smoothly multitask without jailbreaking. There are many things about the iPhone though that no other device has been able to match like the user-friendliness of the UI and the overall look and feel or both the iPhone interface and sheer number of high quality iPhone applications. The browsing experience is still slightly better in little ways and the options for video and music are wayy better than what's offered anywhwre else. As far as the phone goes, I have no issues with it and have no problem hearing the speaker which is why I keep t turned down to about half, but I can see how it wouldn't be loud enough in some environments. The things I like about Android though almost outweigh what I like about the iPhone and its improving quickly, plus there is actually a selection of devices. Currently my issue is that there are really only two Android devices out I would even consider buying (Liquid & have a Droid already) so I'm excited for the Xperia and a version of the Milestone to be available with At&t 3G support.

It is more of a device issue than a telco issue since At&t uses both 850MHz and 1900MHz for 3G and the Liquid only supports 1900MHz. The iPhone, Telus Hero, Brazilian Moto Milestone and many other devices have both so it isn't an issue. The newer version of the Liquid supporting 850MHz 3G cleared the FCC, but we have yet to see one anywhere yet.

Hmm, sorry maybe i misunderstand because there maybe market specific models. The unit i have been using is direct from taiwan EMEA.

I've seen the box from the phone in photos multiple times and it says HSDPA 900/1900/2100 not 850..... When you can provide me some actual proof of this I'll believe it.

If you dont want to spend $600+ for nexus or droid/milestone, then get the Liquid for $400+. The liquid is a good phone but the user base is very small so no hacking/development is being done. We have to hope that Acer will release 2.0 for the phone. I have had mine since it came out and like it a lot. It has so annoying bugs which I can not pinpoint to be software or hardware because Acer has zero documentation on how to use this phone other than how to turn it on and make a call. I'm going to get a Milestone/Droid to use for a bit and see which I like better. 3G works fine by the way if your provider has the 1900mhz towers.

i read online that the phone is not 3G compatible with the US. i bought this phone with the intention of using wifi and not using a data plan. however, on the first day of using this phone i left everything as is and though it was mostly on Edge... i did notice that for a few moments that it was on 3G. but maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me. lol.

Ill confirm it does connect to att's 3g. Even going into H which means 3.5g, really fast web browsing. Its great for the price, if you're on the edge of wether to get this or the pricey milestone I would recommend get the acer or wait for the moto to get cheaper down the line. Which may be a while
