Hi and thanks to this forum for driod users...so i rooted my phone YAY, lolz but i tried cpu boost and just left it on defualt setting and still there's no different in speed, max was set to 600 and the min wouldnt move from 123. And also i just went ahead and deleted the bloatware on it using titu first pressing wipe data than uninstall. Any suggestions? i wanted to try setcpu but if its not going to benefit from it i dont want to waste the money.

I downloaded CPUBoost. There is no option for a flat 600MHz. Is any selection in the 600 range work? These are my options: 614400, 652800, 691200 and in case of rounding up, 576000.

Which would be best to use?

Also, is Titanium the only back-up app to use? I see there are others, but no one has said anything about them

Same thing i was wondering.....

SetCPU will let you set a hard minimum and maximum, as well as creating profiles for CPU settings, such as what speeds to run when the screen is off.

There are several backup programs on the market, but I personally don't have experience with any but Titanium Backup. I would suggest visiting the android market website on your PC:

https://market.android.com/

I find it far easier to browse through the apps this way, as opposed to doing it on your phone. You can also sign in there with your Gmail account, and then download apps from the page on your PC directly to your phone if you so choose. If you want to see what backup programs there are and some info on them, search for "backup" and see what results you get. As a personal policy, I always read the comments to get a better feel for the app.

So after 6, maybe 7 hours of reading thru all these threads about rooting, I feel VERY confident in rooting my phone.

However, being a full time student, my cash funds don't support the buying of apps for this. I think tomorrow sometime I will go ahead and give this a whirl. I have already d/l'ed z4root, but stopped there, afraid I will fall asleep in the middle of this.

If there is any last minute suggestions, PLEASE PM them to me, as I will be checking here before I proceed...

Thanks to all in advance for all the useful info.

SUCCESS!! There is a bit of a noticeable difference, but mostly I just have to get used to my "New Phone" now...

Thanks to all for the help, and any further suggestions, please send them my way

Congratulations and welcome to the forum! :)

So happy to hear you have had a good experience rooting. Now is when the fun truly begins.

Take a look at some of the threads like 'favorite apps' and 'share your desktop' to see what some others are doing with their phones and what apps from the market seem to make the most difference in performance.

Different launchers can make your phone perform better as well as give you a custom look you can change to suit your mood.

LauncherPro Plus, GO Launcher, ADW Launcher, Panda Home...these are all popular launchers with Ascend users.

Getting a keyboard to replace the stock keyboard will also add to your pleasure. We recommend Better keyboard, Smart Keyboard, Keypurr or Ultra. They all have free versions to try out to see which one you like best.

Once you get used to your new phone you may also want to flash the Icarus Mod. That can also boost your performance as well as give your phone a new look too.

Good luck! Thanks for your report! :)

I was looking into the Icarus Mod, and I'm not anywhere near sold on it.
From what I understand Keypurr is the best for people who like Swype? As I have said in other posts, being a full time student, my funds don't yet allow me to spend beyond my basic monthly bill, so I am a free trial junkie.

As soon as I get my phone set back up, I will "share my desktop", of course once I figure out everything I need for it, but as for now, I need to get some sort of wifi tethering that doesn't block https sites like this PDAnet is doing. It's killing me!

Also you can use the links in the video to get files the easy way instead of searching the net and trying to find out what you need...

Just rooted the phone. I had to download the link to the Z4root from 4shared.com. Hope that way the right way to do it. X.x I then put it into the directory of my SD card. It seems to be working fine. Root took about 2 minutes and restarted with no problems. Haven't tried everything but, All I've used have worked. I am using Overclock widget (Free), My phone seems slightly faster. I just downloaded Titanium backup. I am running my Huawei Ascend. Not sure if I will root my Optimus yet...Feel free to suggest things to me. Write me and give me any advice. This is my first smart phone, I'm all for learning. *Winks* (Is still obsessively playing with my Shake them all! Live wallpaper. DROIDS EVERYWHERE!!!) :p

Ok, first i'd like to say thanks to all for the help. First time rooter, easy as pie.
I got the phandriod ap and never had to leave the first post except once to find a different link to get z4.
I deleted the list for metro and was wondering if I can dump any more of this junk, including music player. I'm running power amp but i'd like a different player, one that lets me set my own eq. Any suggestions?
Again, thanks.

I just wanted to say thanks. Luckily I didn't need any help rooting because the instructions were so easy to follow. I'm still leery about the Icarus mod but maybe I'll get the courage to do that too.

I agree one hundred percent. I'm just worried the Icarus mod or any other custom rom will interfere with an upgrade. I'm already ready to unroot if there is an upgrade...(I can always redo it with 2.2 right?)

Ok..I have paid for and downloaded the Titanium Back up but there is no App icon in the menu. Only something called "superuser". What do i do next?

Ok..I fixed it...but should I be concerned about the length of time it takes to freeze a app? its taking a long time.

You should have it in your app drawer, hard to miss, it's a big yellow icon with points on the outside. As for how long it's taking, are we talking seconds, or longer?

As far as we can guess, you should be able to root 2.2 just as you do with 2.1, since many other phones with 2.2 are rooted as well. Just remember this: one of the first steps in the process of installing Icarus is a backup of your current phone image. This means you can always restore it if you decide you want to try the (hopefully forthcoming) 2.2 upgrade. You're not stuck with Icarus if you decide to flash it.

But I can tell you that, for the 20-30 minutes I spent to do it, it has been completely worth it. I flashed mine and my wife's phones with it.
