Help UPDATE: Temp Adobe Flash workaround (WAS: Flash not enabled on Xoom at launch).

I'm still getting it at launch. If I have to wait a few weeks for flash, then so be it.

+1

I can live without it for a few weeks. I've been waiting for this thing for too long to wait just for flash.

I guess you have a point, as we all need to realize that Spring '11 means weeks, not months (we are now only days away from the first of March, after all).

+1 as well

I was so tired of reading the negative responses to this that I, for a brief 30 minutes, started researching the Viewsonic gTablet and how well CyanogenMod worked with it. I then realized it would kill me having the Xoom displayed in BBY all ready to buy up.

what did they do to support the theory it does not support flash? i guess there will be a video up soon on one of these blogger sites demo'ing it does not have flash... ;-)

Well i spoke to a bestbuy associate and they have had a chance to mess with it. Was told it doesnt support flash. Also found out my store only has 5 in stock as of today.

Exactly. Thats what I had to do with my ipad (Which is still for sale if anyone wants to grab it!). While it was annoying, it wasn't the end of the world.

And the thing that people who are lashing out didn't realize is that it wont be like this forever. Like you said: "It's not the end of the world"

I am not an apple fan by any means. But if I look at it objectively, Apple has sold a rediculous amount of mobile devices without flash, and they are never getting it, ever. And Apple has some of the best customer satisfaction number around. So in other worlds, I think I can manage without for a few weeks / month.

But I think with some people it's about the promise of flash and then to find out it won't be ready yet. That could turn some away.

Edit of post, due to Honeycomb:

The Gtablet has the same chipset and has had a Flash beta since December that plays perfectly and blows away performance on my Incredible and the Droid X (plays vids smooth that choke on those devices). All Xoomers should have to do is download/install the Flash app linked at XDA's Gtablet forums.

That is unless the Xoom is blocked from sideloading apps.... Nah.

UPDATE: Oops! Xoom has Honeycomb, so probably not going to work. Seems Honeycomb must use the newer Flash version not released yet.

Should not hurt to try though...

Where's the dilemma? Buy it Thursday, play with it for 29 days, if it's not ALL that you hoped it would be, bring it back, get your money back and move on. There is a return policy for Verizon right?

Verizon's return time period is now 14 days, it recently changed. I'm sure stores will be receiving launch kits with live demos in the next couple days. I'll check out the flash situation as soon as my store gets a tablet and report back.

Lets be real, this product IS going to get flash sometime in the near future. They probably didnt anticipate not launching it with Flash, but couldnt get it done in time. You really think they would PLAN on releasing this without flash?

Also, id love to see someone with some knowledge chime in on this. Lets remember this is on a VW ad

I am with you on all of this.

Still, if this thing is really releasing this Thursday, while Google has done a good job showing this thing off at trade shows, this has been a pretty damn poor ramp up to it's actual release in many respects:

- STILL- now potentially 3 days away from the first 3.0 device ever - there is no official release date announcement from VZW or Motorola. Truly amazing.
- Other than a poor Superbowl ad leading many people to say "There's a new iPad?" there has been no official advertising from VZW or Moto (very little anyway). This is the flagship 3.0 device.. 3 days away from release supposedly ..
- Potential unconfirmed issues with the SD card slot (really? Again amazing on a flagship device like this). If this is not an issue, again there is no response from Moto on it to stop the rumors.
- No 4G out of the box, and an unclear upgrade path STILL (3 days before potential release). We all knew it wouldn't be 4G initially, but none of us know for sure how the upgrade will work exactly (take it to VZW?, mail it to Moto?, replace, etc) There are guesses, we've heard reps say this or that. none of us know. 3 days to go and still nothing official ..
- No Flash initially? Really? I use "PlayOn" on my PC as a media server and can get Hulu and Netflix on my ORIGINAL DROID, but may not be able to get it on the XOOM initially? This is a HUGE fail . ... (Edited: since confirmation below)

All and all we don't know a lot for sure, still. It seems like a decent bit of Moto and Google bungling (maybe a bit of VZW too), some really detrimental silence about all these issues, and lots of confusion for us folks trying to get answers IMO ...

I am excited, but this is not the way to handle a release for this kind of flagship device IMO. This seems to be one of the worst releases for a major device in recent memory ..

If it doesn't come with Flash 10.2 preloaded can you just download Flash 10.1 from the market and install it?

Honeycomb apparently needs the newer Flash not released yet, but has even better video acceleration. That said, the Flash beta for Tegra 2 works amazing already on the Gtablet.

Using that version of Flash probably will not work, considering the dramatic update Honeycomb is to direct hardware resource reliant apps like Flash.

Dang!

The microsd does not work (yet), either. Unless they mapped the internal space as storage (like on Gtablet), a ton of apps will not work, since they need to place data on the microsd. Apps2sd is also an issue, but that is obvious.

This better be an update that will happen ASAP, or forget about Flash or 4G being the main issue- this will be for returns.

This device is NOT worth $800 or even $600 (as released). Seems VZW would be better served to hold off on the release, since too many open (big) issues.

Seems this stuff will hurt consumer perception, regardless of when fixed- after release.

I guess if you really have to have flash you better buy an iPad. :p
Personally flash slows down my web experience, too many dam clicknet ads loading.

Not with "on demand". Also, Flash on Tegra 2 works far better than even my cynical self thought it would. "Stunning" is a fair word for Flash performance on the Gtablet.

Leave Flash plug-in set to "on demand" so Flash is only active when you want it to be. Just tap the content window :)

With the confirmation from Motorola that this is true, I really am surprised at how they are handling this whole thing. This is absurd that this FLAGSHIP device is having such a shady release. It is 3 days before the release and practically no stores have even gotten one to start testing and playing around with. You can expect close to NO TECHNICIANS knowing anything until next week.

You are ASUMING that Flash will be launched in a few weeks. Good luck with that. Adobe does not have a great track record with releasing Flash in a timely manner OR when it says it will. This whole Xoom launch is a ClusterF**K of Epic proportions. What a way to screw up a great device. No 4g (LTE), No SDCARD and now NO Flash support on day 1. Moto wanted to get this device to market before all the other Honeycomb tablets and iPad 2. You NEVER buy an Electronic Device hoping to get updates later. Epic Fail
