disabling keypad feedback

The HTC Hero is my first experience with a virtual keyboard. It takes some getting used to but I have adapted rather quickly - to the point that I actually like it better. The self-correcting feature is great. It catches nearly all my mistakes and fixes them on the fly.

However - I don't know if I've gotten better or my phone has gotten slower - but it seems to lag behind my typing now. I discovered that if I turn off the vibrate feedback feature that it speeds up considerably. I would think that anybody who gets really fast at typing on their Hero is eventually going to have to turn that off.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Oh yes, many people have made the same comment. Tbh I don't find any k/b lag with haptic feedback enabled, but that may just be down to me typing slower or having a non-standard handset config. I certainly don't doubt that it's true under the right set of circumstances.
