People complaining

I for one have been holding out since the I pad came out, waiting for an official android tablet. Yes, i'm anti-apple... I thought the day would never come when the xoom would be in stores. Now it's in my hands and even though it's lacking a few options and upgrades at release , i'm happy! I'm patient because the rest will come. I'd rather have what I got now than to wait any longer... This tablet is a foundation and everything will build on it. You can't have the app first. The I pad had few apps at release(remember). Yes it's pricey but is also a luxury to have it now. Motorola has called Apples bluff and I believe they will do what it takes to avoid any embarasment.

Hey Railrode1/PaulG1488, I'm so glad someone sees this Xoom thing as I see it. I've been watching the forums since the day it arrived in the stores and have been so fed up with what people are saying about it. They are getting upset because it isn't doing what they expected it to do, however, I'm sure it does these things, they just haven't taken the time to figure out how to perform these functions. It seems like alot of people haven't done their homework and researched what this device will/can do. They just went out and bought it without first getting this info. Now they are asking a tone of questions after the fact. One of the issues I've been hearing alot is, where are the apps? Well, if you had've done your homework, you would know that Google only recently opened the SDK to the developers so that they can start creating the apps, so in due time, the apps will arrive, just as they did for the first Android phones, as well as, all Apple devices. There is no Apple device that hit the market with 1000's of apps already ready to load on them. So I said all that to say that I have an iPad and also an Android phone. I will be selling my iPad soon and because I enjoy customizing my devices, I love what Google/Android has brought to the market and I will be picking up a Xoom or possibly the Samsung Galaxy 10.1

Besides Xoom not having USB host (big issue, IMO) the Xoom is about one major update away from being mega-fine for folks :)

Sad for me, I need USB host, so the Gtablet will do for me until something with USB host and better display comes along that can be purchased locally.... That may be a while...

Sucks no USB host on the Xoom. Real bad :(

My complaint for the day :) :( ;)

added:

I like USB host, since handy for file transfer and have a 64gb thumbdrive loaded with movies and PSX games. VERY handy and battery drain is no different (that I can tell) than if the drive was not plugged in. USB host rocks!

Isn't the xoom supposed to be getting an update to enable the USB host?

I'm sure if its a software issue that is not enabling USB host then I'm sure xda will find a way to make it work at some point

I knew going in and buying the Xoom, it was not gonna be perfect, well far from perfect. I knew it won't have flash, the external memory card won't work, and other issues but so far I'm happy with it.

The only thing I wasn't too happy about was missing out on the 25% Motorola screwed on up...... I was so mad that I stayed up all night researching the Xoom and fell alseep after I bought the Xoom and missing on the deal of the day!!!!

I for one am very excited about Android tablets. These things will do everything I want out of the box (eventually) and much more than the iPad will do.

So the iPad market has 50,000+ apps. Who gives a rats ass. I'm not going to download 50,000 apps and 49,950 I'll never want because its crap wasting space on my tablet.

What I want in a tablet for apps (apps remember, not everything I want) - the Xoom and other tablets come with out of the box. email, web, mapping, reading books, facebook, youtube, etc. The rest of my main apps are news apps, sports apps, shopping apps, weather, etc. These are all main stream major apps that will be updated for tablets before those folks complaining learn to tie their shoes.

I'm not buying a tablet as a gaming device - so I don't need 50,000 apps to choose from.

What apps do you want that you think will NOT be updated for android tablets very shortly? Right - all of them will be and soon. So lets focus on the rest of the things that are different between tablets like the Xoom and the iPad. And its clear to see android tabelts are far superior.

Most of the hating going on is because of price, which is ridiculous

The only people that think the price is ridiculous are the ones trying to compare it to the wifi only 16GB iPad @ $499. Compare it to its actual competitor, the 32GB wifi/3g model @ $684 (current Amazon price after being on the market almost 1 year) and the complaint disappears.

The Xoom easily beats that $684 iPad in every category except for available Apps (for now).

Though the 16GB is limited. No 3G. Some people do want 3G ;) . But you're right, $684 iPad doesn't even compare. Now when the WIFI only comes out, even with the iPad 2 out, will sell like hot cakes.

:p

"Superior" in this case is subjective. Gamers would be better served with an iPad and folks wanting broad connectivity options and Flash would be better served with an Android tablet. The is a HUGE and subjective middle between those.

As posted before, I solved my dilemma by getting BOTH. A $350 Gtablet that actually has better USB connectivity and a $364 iPod 64gb. Best of both worlds for me and $100 cheaper than the Xoom (in its current configuration).

Apple app ecosystem rocks and so does the functionality of my Gtablet, so nice combo for me :) added: Both tether great with the Incredible, so covered for 3G's function.

I think the price is ridiculous for something that at current is only good for surfing the web. I understand its new and shinny but that doesn

I agree I think this will be like the nexus version of tablets due to the google experience which means I expect developers to really make the xoom even better for us in time

This^^^ is one of the reasons I'm getting one. With the Xoom being a "Google Experience" device, if Google follows precedent, the Xoom should be rockin' OS updates on a regular basis...a la Nexus.

Apps will come, once they do start popping up it will be fast and furious. Other than the many opinions people have expressed regarding price, I don't see a down-side to owning a Xoom. It can only get better.

How's the web browsing on the gtab? Does flash work well? Any major cons? At $300, I might be in for one.

Browsing is great if you use Dolphin. The stock browser is laggy/draggy. Flash works well and I have no real complaints about the Galaxy Tab other than the fact that Samsung will probably abandon it when they release their 10' tab.

I use LauncherPro on the Galaxy Tab and it's outstanding.

I don't understand why moto doesn't make the xoom play any video file without re-encoding. To me this would be a cheap way to one-up the ipad. The Archos tablets already play any video file. Another easy advantage would be to include a dlna client. If the xoom had both of these items, I would buy one today.

On this we completely agree. I tried some videos that I encoded last night and had mixed success. If VLC was out for the Xoom we wouldn't even be talking about video as being an issue most likely. One would think with the hardware available on the Xoom we shouldn't be seeing stuttering video issues and videos that refuse to play. This will get addressed, I'm sure. But it is an area that definitely needs work.

I want the Xoom. Went to a Verizon store. Play with it and didn't buy it. Came home, read all the good stuff about the Xoom. Went back to the Verizon store again. Played with it. Talked to other people who's also interested in getting the Xoom. But none of us did. Came home empty handed again. Now I want it again. Consumer behavior is hard to predict. =)

That would definitely rock. Although, when we get flash, won't we be able to play with Hulu and our Amazon Prime video streaming stuff? Just a thought.

For sure. But i was thinking about jumping on planes or places potentially without wifi coverage. Also I have a lot of digital copies from blue rays that are unfortunately drm'd to iTunes or windows media player. I wish there was a fast way to remove drm!

I wrote a script to drag and drop drm'd files on top of that removes it. But, you do need the proper tools and version of iTunes, yea.
