Help How are you watching movies?

iTunes uses a DRM called fairplay that's only supported on "iDevices". However, it's possible to rid your files of that menace after which they play just fine on the Xoom. I was playing Dark Knight last night and that's an iTunes digital copy in mp4 format. (h.264 video, aac and ac3 audio tracks...assuming the xoom is defaulting to aac).

I have about 30 movies ripped and on my Xoom. I did sign up for a trial version of Playon and Netflix. Allegedly that should work until we get a true Android Netflix app. I couldn't get them (my laptop and my Xoom) to connect last night. I'm going to try it with my desktop and Xoom tonight. Ill post back with my success rate. Has anyone else tried this and have it working?

I use iTunes digital copy files (and as marctronixx said, we'll not discuss how that happens) with the built in player and haven't had any problems. I've also converted some of my own files using Handbrake 0.95 using the iPhone 4 profile (yea, yea) and those work fine, as well. The iPad profile gave me stuttering issues. So yea, we need some hardware accelerated codecs on this thing but once we have that I suspect we can create 720p files and not have any problem. That's what I'm waiting for...the ability to play my show recordings (mkv's created with VRD) on the Xoom. VLC is in the works, as well. I wonder if they'll use hardware acceleration for Tegra 2 devices...

I have a bunch of movies and television shows that I have ripped onto a Windows Home Server and I am probably going to install the trial of PlayOn to see if that will stream over all of my videos wherever I may be so that I do not have to download them onto the Xoom before I go anywhere.

Unfortunately I do not have my Xoom yet as I ordered it with the 25% discount and those have not shipped yet. I could test it on my Motorola Droid but I figured that I would just wait until the Xoom comes.

Also for anyone that does have and use PlayOn, is there a way to download a local media file that you are sharing onto a device like the Xoom or Droid. Like for example, lets say I am at the airport and realize that I forgot to sync a movie, can I access my PlayOn media files remotely through 3G and then download them to the device instead of streaming as I will be loosing the 3G connection once I enter the air?

Ok so I am admittedly not the biggest technology whiz so here is my story. I purchsed this dvdcat software in an attempt to convert a digital copy which I have on itunes so I can watch it on my xoom. What happened was it created five files in a folders totaling around 70mb. The movie as actually 2000mb or something like that. So what did I do wrong?

It's best if you email him at dvdcatalyst@gmail.com if you need help. I had an issue with my copy not working and he emailed me back within 24 hours.

I'll try to help you if I can but I'm no expert. I do think that it only works on dvd, I'm not sure on digital copies. I know there are a few files when I rip mine and I simply chose the big file and ignore the others. I think they are dvd extras, so I didn't add them.

Yes I've used it on my EVO and ipod and it works well. Some bandwidth/buffering slowdowns but it wont yet work on the zoom. It did take some work with my router, firewall and antivirus (I'm using bit defender and a dlink) to get it up but it works great since

Mp4 is usually a safe bet as it should work on all digital media toys (I.e. iPod/pad, android phone/tablet)

Alright, so I have tried a bunch of different things trying to get video up and running on my Xoom and am beginging to get really frustrated. I have been able to convert my .Tivo files over, but thats about it.

I have a Mac, so that has limited some of the programs I can use. I'm looking to do two things, to either convert some of the movies I own to a watchable format and/or conver some of the files I purchased through iTunes over to a watchable format. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Feel free to PM if you prefer.

Hopefully I don't have to return this sucker, because otherwise I love it.
