As a Droid owner, I'm happy for my N1 brothers

Just gotta say that they are in for a hell of a ride. The N1 looks to be an awesome device and they are going to get to have the kind of fun we've all been having with a spanking fast shiny new Android phone.

More than that I'm really excited to see this tsunami of sweet Android devices to hit the market. It doesn't take much imagination to realize how much the Market is going to grow with quality apps.

That said, I'm still very happy with my Droid AND a little bit jealous of the N1 already, all at the same time. I may even buy it at some point in the coming months, but most of all, this is exciting news for the platform we all know rocks.

I think it's awesome as most of the android phones have proven themselves but I honestly can't say I'm jealous. Without the physical keyboard, it's a lesser phone, IMO.

I hope the N1 brings more dev's to Android, especially ones capable of high end app's that can utilize the better hardware we have now. I have to say I expected more from the N1 before reading the reviews, but it is still a awesome phone with top notch hardware. I think if they had thrown in a physical keyboard it would be worth switching to in the spring, just gotta see HOW bad that AMOLED screen really is in direct sunlight as I spend a good amount of time outside.

I think verizon getting the N1 was a good idea. Im sure google liked how verizon handled the sale of the moto droid and t-mobile with the G1. Now apple is gonna come out with a new iphone with LED flash just to say its new iphone.

A fair assessment for sure. Different strokes for different Barbras I always say. People tend to look at me funny when I do though, not sure why.

Anywho! I'm not a big physical keyboard person but after reading Engadget's review I'm not as jealous as I was. Mostly though I am just psyched to see so many awesome phones coming out and I love my Droid whether there is a better phone out there or not.

I think the N1 is going to be nice, but I'm really happy with my phone. I liked the point engadget made about the "Can't wait for your Verizon Nexus One? Click here " link on google.com/phone. The though is: Google doesn't really care about you buying the N1 specifically, they just want to get you on an android device.

This, totally. That's one of the things that sold me on the Droid. I went to try it out and i was tempted by the seductions of a woman named Eris, but then the Fembot Droid threw her voluptuous screen in my face...

I, for one, am very happy I decided to go with the Droid instead of waiting for the N1. The screen is not only crappy in direct sunlight, but it does not have the resolution of the Droid's beautiful screen. 800 for the N1, 854 for the Droid.

I'm not saying that the N1 sucks. Far from it. It seems to be a beautiful phone in its own right, and it will make whoever owns it a happy person. But IMHO, the Droid is best for what I want in a phone.

Why are there so many DROID owners trying to console themselves after the N1 announcement? It's like they feel bad they're stuck with some kind of inferior phone. I think it's great the Google came out with another phone (N1). But really, I'm a bit disappointed it isn't MORE than it is.

Maybe if it was announced to be a DROID like phone without the keyboard, I'd be less disappointed. But since it was hyped as the quintessential gPhone, I was expecting something earth shattering... a game changer.

What I am happy about is that there is another option. Instead of people having to settle for an Eris/Hero, they actually have a phone that doesn't have the keyboard that was their deal breaker but also with a real friggin' processor, instead of that Qualcomm M7XXX processor. My worry is that it wasn't enough to trump what Apple has up its sleeve for Summer 2010. But I'm glad that it'll bring more exposure to Android.

But, it still might not be enough... I was hoping for:

1) gVoice + Gizmo5 = FREE VOICE
2) Native App2SD
3) Better Gallery and Music handling
4) Better Facebook and Twitter integration
5) Better Exchange handling
6) Native Swype

These are the least of it.

App development will be smoother since the Droid and N1 will provide a mass market standard. And finally for those "other" smartphone owners who thought the Droid was ugly...what is your excuse now ...the Nexus One is here .

I'm a big fan of Google's platform..I can finally try to convince my mom to get an N1 on T-Mobile (c'mon the MyTouch wasn't impressive). I think a huge point that people are missing is that this is the first time I can remember a premier OPEN phone being available on ALL 3 networks with NO CUSTOMIZATIONS. To me that is huge! I wouldn't mind Sense on the N1...but there is always rooting.

Aye, I felt this too. Like I was happy my phone wasn't made totally obsolete, and still sad they didn't hit it out of the park.

The screen is not only crappy in direct sunlight, but it does not have the resolution of the Droid's beautiful screen. 800 for the N1, 854 for the Droid.

Those missing pixels amount to about 26,000 pixels missing from the bottom of the screen, but also renders the screen from being a full 16:9. So, any movies that you've ported that are 16:9 won't fill the screen on an N1 without black borders. Aside from that, it's going to display less of a webpage compared to a DROID. It's going to display a few less messages in your inbox. I don't honestly know why they did that other than to make a WIDER screen, because the screen is wider (which incidentally leads to less mistakes on the portrait keyboard). But that's why they invented Swype!

N1 is a great phone, I'm not gonna say anything bad about it, I'm just glad to see that the reviews came out and it's not God as some people predicted. I'm perfectly happy with my Droid and still prefer it over that phone from what I know so far. Not planning on switching even if it comes to Verizon. Don't get me wrong though, I'd still take the N1 on TMo over an iPhone on AT&T any day of the week.

everyone normally feels some kind of regret when they buy an electronic device knowing something new is right around the corner, look at the iphone another iphone every year that really has no cosmetic change and not many diff. specs, but its NEW.

I 1st got the BB Storm 2 and took back when the moto Droid came out im glad i did the droid is best phone i have owned then once my contract is up there will most likely be a nexus 2 for me to buy.

iPhone has a 12 month cycle, but yeah, iPhone 4.0 should be here this summer. The fourth iteration of the iPhone's SDK is slated to be released to developers by late January.

It may not have made your top 5, but I know that these are things that either would have shaken up the industry, major UI complaints of 2.0, or are recent applications native to new phones.

1) gVoice + Gizmo5 = FREE VOICE (industry changer, no more paying for expensive voice plans)

2) Native App2SD (major complaint, Android phones are working on a measly 256 mb of app storage? C'mon, iPhone has 16 gb for big apps like 3D gaming)

3) Better Gallery and Music handling (major complaint, even the 2.1 gallery and music player is WHACK! I downloaded the apk for them and I actually like the 2.0.1 version better!)

4) Better Facebook and Twitter integration (major complaint, FB and Twitter are a joke as native apps; Sense UI handles them much better)

5) Better Exchange handling (major complaint, native 2.0/2.1 still don't have the kinds of encryption/security necessary to replace BB devices for major organizations)

6) Native Swype (app native on new phones, this is the new way to type. For a phone that only has a virtual keyboard, this is a MUST HAVE!)

These are only 6, but I expected 1, 2, 3 of them? Not even all six, just a few.
