I just got this phone today and am already having problems. It seems that I can't turn the volume down. I can turn it up, but when I press the - it does nothing. Is it broken?

I press the + and it makes a tink sound and brings up the volume, but when I press - it does nothing.

Also, how do I make it so my phone doesn't vibrate for every letter on the keyboard I press?

I'd say that's a factory defect. If you don't want to go through the trouble of getting a replacement, I would suggest downloading just about any volume control app, as you will be able to adjust it from there. Here's one as an example:

Volume Control +

I downloaded that and it's now on my screen or whatever, but I don't understand how this will help me when I am doing something like watching a Youtube video and want to turn down the volume.

I am messing with it and it seems to work if I press down hard with the tip of my nail lol
Just try to hold it down firmly, Making sure your finger is as far to the bottom of the volume key as possible. As for the turning off vibration just go into Settings > Language and Keyboard settings > Android keyboard > Uncheck the Vibrate on keypress. Also if you use Swype go into that and also uncheck the Vibrate on keypress option as well if you don't want it to vibrate as you are texting. ^^.

Hi, please do yourself a favor and swap it for another device. Thank you. :)
BTW, I just got my Ascend last week and I don't have the problem you posted about.

A few people I know with Ascends have to press the very bottom of the volume button. Like at the very very tip of the end. See if that works, It can't hurt to try right. ^^. Plus I stated how to turn off the vibration feedback. ^^. Sorry, Thanks!

I tried the very tip, and nothing :\

I don't think I want an ascend if this it a common problem.

I bought it off the Metro PCS website. Before I realized this problem can't be fixed, the store closed.

X.x Just having to press the bottom part is. To be honest though, It's the same way with my Optimus. If I press too high up on the down part it doesn't do anything. Don't know if this is a major issue, It just sounds like your phone is one of the few with defects. I tend to avoid buying things like this off websites as I've always encountered problems with them. Then again, I'm just a weirdo. LOL. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

All I know is that I can press the + and it doesn't matter how I do it, it just works, and makes the volume go up, but no matter how I press - it won't respond and turn the volume down.

It RANDOMLY works if I press it super hard but it's random and rarely works. I don't get it.

If all Ascend phones are like this I'm sad :(

I wouldn't say this is necessarily a "common problem" since I haven't heard of many people with the issue. My wife and I both have Ascends, and neither of us have a problem with ours. I will note, however, that if you buy one of those covers for the Ascend from MetroPCS, sometimes it can be hard to press the buttons just right.

So you can press the - part of the rocker any which way and it turns it down no problems?

G made a great statement too. Sometimes the covers DO affect the way the volume buttons work! That makes a lot of sense considering that I use a cover on both my Ascend and Optimus. Wasn't even thinking about it being the covers fault! *Hugglejumps G*
