Wow. Good find! I guess there is a conflict of interest there for Mr Pogue. Since he benefits indirectly from better iPhone sales, then there is financial incentive for him to skew the better reviews for the iPhone.

David Pogue also wrote a very scathing review of the Barnes & Noble Nook, which happens to also run on Android.

A good article that points out both positives (1st page) and negatives of the N1. I'm an avid Android fan too, but some of us here may be a little too clouded in our own bias and not accept any real criticism. I think Google did miss the mark here. If it was subsidized more by Google (like around $200-300 unlocked), it would make waves, if it had 3G speeds for AT&T and Tmobile in the same phone, then the true meaning of 'unlocked' is unleashed. But neither are true. It's just a slightly upgraded phone made by HTC, sold through the same channels & requires same data plans by Tmobile. Except now Google allows you to buy it (how's this different than the original G1 and Ion Dev phones sold by Google?)

i agree with everything you say but there's one aspect that still has me scratching my head - that frigging plan at tmo for the $179 price - no matter how you slice it, whether you're an existing customer or a new to tmo customer, you have to take an additional plan for a single line at tmo to buy it at that price - and the math sez it's actually cheaper to buy it outright at $530 (if i were willing to pay that much) than to go with the subsidized price

at least buying it outright, if i allocated $50/month for cost, the outright price is paid off in 10 months - with the tmo plan, you're paying that $55 for 24 months (that assuming i took their plan, and then dropped data from one of my existing lines, so the $79 price is "adjusted" in my cost analysis to $55 ($79 minus the $25 i'm paying now)

i can't for the life of me figure why tmo would bother offering that plan except to support google, cause it sure isn't supporting tmobile

like you, if google had offered that phone, even at $399, i'd be on it - at $530, no way

I only just bought into the android world... I wanted a great phone, and I seriously dislike the iphone. The premise of the android platform and everything about it really just enticed me... plus, I think I'm one of the few people around who thinks the iphone looks ugly.

Believe me, I have no regrets.
