Flash app test help..

Hi,

I'm the developer of MomentFlash, an app originally intended just for the Moment to allow LED flash to be used as flashlight.

Someone asked for Behold 2 support, and I guess that phone and Galaxy use same driver for LED, so theoretically the app should work on the Galaxy. I know you guys already have an app or two to do this, but I just want to see if it works so I can indicate that it does or does not work on Galaxy.

File is attached. To turn on flash, tap eye. To go bright, drag finger from middle of eye out of top of eye. To turn off, tap again. There's also a widget (double-tap quickly for bright mode, tap to toggle normal flash).

If someone could try it and let me know if it works on the galaxy that would be cool.

PS: If you could, also tell me what the text at the top of the app screen says. Should be something like Samsung/Sxx-XXX or something like that.

Hi, it works almost perfect - the normal flash works, timeout works, the startup state as well. the only bug i see is with the bright mode - it brightens only for half a second or so and then turns the flash off (just like when taking a picture - first you get the normal flash, then at shutter press it brightens and afterwards shuts off). the wigdet and app then indicate that the bright mode ist still on, while the flash is actually off.

The glowing pear app does the same thing. It may not be possible to get the other flash to stay on all the time I guess.

yup, that's what I use when I need a flashlight (the app is called gFlash)

Yeah, I think there may be a protection circuit or something that prevents the flash from being on too long in "bright" (camera) mode.

OK, new version that removes LED timeout (caused issues with camera apps) and removes bright mode for galaxy/behold (since they only allow 1 second anyway).

FYI shamelessly copied from Behold 2 post.. Don't know how many Galaxy users there are, but...

FYI there's a new version on the market. Main reason for it was to support Android 2.1 on the Moment, but I changed the look a bit. There's also a "MomentFlash Donate" version that adds morse code and strobe.

I wasn't able to test on the Galaxy as I don't have one, so hopefully I didn't break anything with the rewritten code. If you try it out and it doesn't work right, let me know.

thanks for this app, can I ask only one small cosmetic change? When I place widget icon on desktop it is to big, I wish it's smaller so it will look more in line with other "normal" icons

I changed the look a bit.

it's absolutely hideous, old one was way better - you'll wanna use png images to get a proper alpha channel (transparency)

I wasn't able to test on the Galaxy as I don't have one, so hopefully I didn't break anything with the rewritten code. If you try it out and it doesn't work right, let me know.

from my 3 seconds of testing, it seems to work just fine (as it did before)

Sure - I will see if there's a way to make the widget it uses configurable from the Settings and allow use of a smaller widget.

In terms of the look being bad, can you elaborate? I'm using PNG with transparency. Is the motif bad do you think, or just the implementation of the picture it uses for the flash? I'm definitely no artist, so I may try to come up with a better App view. The current one is a Frankenstein of a distorted Maglite plus a button layered on.

it looks as tho' partially transparent pixels all default to 0 transparency for some reason, so there's this white border surrounding the maglite (and the light), plus the distortion makes it look blurry and bad while there's this very contrasting sharp round button that really brings out the inferior quality of the maglite

what i'd do (being no artist either), is apply the keep it stupid simple principle - ditch the maglite and just enlarge the button slightly and center align it; what's so wrong with that?
