[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

Flashing and unflashing this phone rather than buy apps again. I'm so broke I can't even afford to pay attention. That's why you had to walk me through the Icarus install last night. LOL

LOL!!! I had to break my piggy bank open to do it! :D

Lol I was in cub scouts for a few months in second grade, but it was not relevant to my life, trust me. Lol I'm just smart I suppose.

wait, thats messed up, that can't be true. Lol you sure you didn't ask the right people?

Yep! I asked all over the place. Fortunately I didn't have to buy that many but I do still have those apps sitting over in the other account too if I should get another phone. LOL I love my little ascend more and more with each custom rom...LOL

I know just what you mean. Tonight I started to flash the bootleg Froyo but then I thought....I just got ICARUS 1.1 and it's working so nicely. Why not wait till they get the mms issue fixed with 2.2

One thing I know...I will never have the stock 2.2 as once you get into custom roms....they are just soooo much better! LOL Hurry up and join us! :D

I said that too. But I'm switching to icarus this weekend. I've had my phone about two weeks now. Enjoy your phone no matter how you use it. :)

I am still loving the Icarus. I have like no problems at all. This rom works beautifully well for my phone. Plus honestly the install was fairly simple. If you can follow directions and you pay attention, I totally say go for the rom! I will be using Icarus until after the official update. That way there will be a custom rom based off it (Like Icarus based off Eclair). When that day comes, I will have no doubts about it. All the froyo roms right now have bugs, Once the official is out, Those bugs will be gone.

P.S I do see this new rom on this thread. I am not against putting a new rom on my phone now. Just don't plan to put one that doesn't fully work. I pay to utilize all my features! Call me greedy but, I use them all! :p

i think im just going to wait patiently for 2.2 since ive only had my phone 2 days \o/

Hi dude! Sounds like a good plan to me! Get familiar with how your phone works. Let us know here if you have any questions as trying to get answers from Cust Svc can be very frustrating (regardless of carrier) and just have fun with it. There are a lot of fun things you can do to your Android without putting a custom rom on it right now...or even rooting it for that matter. Who are you with? Cricket or Metro? And how's your signal? Welcome to the Ascend forum! :)

Hey Andy! Doesn't take long to become an expert here on this forum does it? LOL I got my Ascend when they first came out and I think I rooted it the first week after I found this forum. We all kind learned together. It's been so much fun! LOL Good luck on Icarus! You will love it! :)

I don't blame you at all. Icarus rocks! Last night I seriously considered flashing the bootleg 2.2 but then I don't want to not have all my features either, just like you said. Isaac is coming out with another custom rom that will be available anyday now that supposedly blows 2.2 away anyway. LOL

I can wait! :D

I want to get ICARUS 1.1 so bad but I'm afraid of something happening to my phone.

Hi Fred! Honestly the ICARUS 1.1 is VERY easy to install if you just follow the directions and dont' miss ONE step! I'm going to change the order of the instructions sometime today just to make them a little easier to follow.

It makes such a difference in performance I hate to see you miss out on the opportunity. If it makes you feel any better....I was a bit reluctant myself. LOL

But once I did it I was so glad I did! Let me know if you are going to try it and when so I can be sure to be around.

:)

Wait so...icarus is an OS, so if I get it, which I do plan, would it be redundant to even get 2.2? Only one of them can run at once? I want whatever is best. I may be wasting energy waiting for froyo. Lol

correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Repo! I wouldn't exactly call Icarus an OS. It is a modification of Huawei's 2.1 OS. And that makes it a 'custom ROM'. These custom ROMs are created and developed by geniuses who know how to take the factory ROM and redesign it to make it function better than the manufacturer did when they created it. All the bloatware is gone and features are added and modified to make it run smoother and faster.

I can't say if it would run better than the official 2.2 because I haven't had it to compare but I will say that it works so much better I can't imagine that upgrading to an official 2.2 firmware upgrade being all that better. After all, one has to remember that the device hardware is somewhat limited to begin with.

Hope this kinda explains things. LOL

im with cricket and so far my signal couldn't be better, i wasn't to sure about cricket bc they were new to my area, but after reading about the sprint cricket agreement i was a lil happier, but over all it seems to be grerat, looking at there coverage map i can prety much go everywhere i would normal go anyway, ive got it rooted simply bc i wanted to remove a few things and add setcpu so i can under-clock during downtime, i also added juice-defender just to try out but either i just dont know what settings to use or it doesn't work, but other than my battery dying i love it...and its possible its dying simply bc im playing with it all day....that didnt sound right at all

The downside or bad side effect is all the time you will spend using the phone with all the cool new features and speed it will have, Girlfriend is pissed i don't answer any calls when i am playing on my phone

;)

LMAO!!! I know what you mean. My friends call and I get off as soon as I can so I can go back to playing with my phone. They all give me total hell over it! hahaha

LOL! I removed Juice Defender because I felt it slowed my phone down too much and nothing really helps that much with the battery if you "play with it all day". HA!!! :D

I KNOW right (Though it's a boyfriend in my case, He gets sick of be phone bragging)! Seriously my only downside is that I kill my battery. It's because I can't put the darn phone down now. I'm like "Downloading E V E R Y T H I N G", LOL. It takes like seconds to download an app now compared with before. Plus the way my home screens and app drawer fling around like ninjas, Man..Seriously there is like nothing bad about this at all for me. ^_^

Okay I understand. So my better judgement tells me to stick with icarus until they make a mod of 2.2 after it comes out. The manufacturer is always going to limit. All technology is such. Have you any idea the mods you can put on gaming consoles? It's like woah. Lol

Once they get the official 2.2 out, I'm sure there will be another custom rom based off it. This will be less buggy and more stable as they've got the ACTUAL 2.2 that is meant for the phone to base it off of (Instead of basing it off another phones Froyo). I'm actually really excited now about trying all these new things. Technology is addicting isn't it?
