Hi,

I use my HTC Magic to mainly check my SMTP e-mail and Google Calendar.

Have a little problem with the built-in email client, when I receive e-mails then the subjectet or message displays in Chinese characters, ex:

Re: 䵥摤敬慮摥⁦狥渠偃䝡浩湧

Earlier I used the Sony Ericsson X1 and where it worked perfectly, it also works great on my computer when I use Outlook.

Anybody been through this and know what can be wrong?

Greetings,
Rikard

Welcome to the Forums...

I would have to ask if you checked to make sure you have NONE of your language settings either on the phone or email coincidently set to Chinese...

Thanks for your welcome noonehereyet and a very quick response!

I forgot to mention that this is not the case for all emails but only somtimes, perhaps every second email.

I have only English on the phone what I know about, the mail i recive can be sent from different senders, so I do not know what settings they have.

In order for myself or others to truly help your issue I would have to ask you narrow down the issue to see if it is specific users check your email settings online not just on the phone and if at all possible see if you can duplicate it.... you might also want to d/l log collector from the market and see if an error is occuring in the logs...

I have checkt the email settings on my server and dosent find any settings about language selection.

It can happen from any sender, somtimes the subject is Chinese and somtimes the message is Chinese and sometimes both :)

From Log Collector i find this text:

This is my phone settings:

Locale & Text
Select locale = English
Touch Input
-Keyboard types = QWERTY
-Keyboard language = English

The only thing i have downloaded from market is "Swedish dictionary", maybe i should try to reset my phone?

I wouldn't be so hasty as to factory reset but I would definitely
true removing any apps that you remember installing right before you started seeing the error 1 by 1 to narrow it down and allow other users to know what causes it so it can be prevented and fixed...

I have the same phenomena, but in the message content. Some of my mails end up showing chinese signs in stead of the regular font. I have tried to investigate if the origin of the mails, but I think that it has to do with the font from the originator. I would assume that there is a font missing on the phone and that makes it display it as chinese.

I am using the mail client on the sprint HTC hero and syncing with my Groupwise IMAP account. Everything works fine except high priority emails are not being tagged as such, and look like all of the other emails. I have synced this account in the past with a Treo and a Palm Pre, and they both tagged high priority emails. The HTC rep said that it must be a problem with my server, but given that it worked on those two phones, it seems to be a problem with this phone. They recommended reinstalling my account, but I can't see how that could help. When I first installed it, there were already high priority emails in there, but they were not labeled. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Ask your IT department to look at the new "Novell Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack" solution from Novell. This will allow the current ActiveSync client technology built into most smart phones (iPhone, Android, etc) to sync to Novell GroupWise 8 and >. Your IT department can test this today in their test lab to an Android based phone and many other smart phones - see http://www.novell.com/promo/data_synchronizer.html

Once they get this installed, you can use the built in Android Corporate Email APP and Corporate Calendar APP in your DROID phone to connect to your corporate GroupWise 8 backend using the ActiveSync protocol. Steps to get this to work are outlined at http://gwguruman.fileave.com/DROID%20Setup%20-%20Novell%20Data%20Synchronizer%20 Mobility%20Pack.pdf
