At Barnes & Noble looking at cases for my Nook Color. At the Nook kiosk, there is an older couple being helped by another customer, since the actual B&N employee couldn't answer all the questions. She's an old lady, but very into books and her Nook Color. Probably like 60 or so, gray hair, walked with a cane.........think a nice grandma type.

So I'm still looking for a particular case, and standing next to her, I told her that she knew a lot about the Nook. Then I said she'd be surprised what I've done to mine and showed her my homescreen, thinking I was so clever.

She replied: Oh, that's Launcher Pro, I've rooted mine as well, but I run Zeam as my launcher. Amazing what you can do with the Android OS.

Let's just say I was taken back a bit. We talked for a few minutes and she really knew her stuff. Just goes to show you that this Android community spans all types and generations. :D

lol, 60 isn't that old, that's what my mom would say. :p You should have asked her what root method she used? If she would have answered that, then I would be totally impressed.

And when you use words like "alas"...you give your old age away ;)

Ooooh....burn!

LOL,
She mentioned that. She got one right when they came out and had to use the old root method instead of Autonooter. She was lamenting about how easy they were to root now. :D

Wow, I missed the age the first time I read the post. Old Lady??? I imagined you were referring to someone in their 80s. I just turned 60 and don't think of myself as being old . Yes I rooted my NC (and still have all my teeth). I even listen to MP3s.

Lol! You're cracking me up! The vast majority of the Harley Owners I ride with are over 50 - and one's got to be in his mid-70's (he was in the Korean War!). Nope, "old" ain't what it used to be! :p

If you can retire in the next few years, you're old.

Social Security says so. ;)

Old is relative, so yeah, old to me, and I'm middle aged. Hey, at least I didn't say "ancient fossil". I'm old to some of the college grads I work with.

Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. But if I did, take off your reading glasses, shake off the arthritis and try to catch me. :D

I don't think you were "ruffling" anyones feathers. haha. There you go again showing your age. lol.

It's all in fun. Getting old is inevitable but doesn't mean we stop having fun and laughing.

Didn't ruffle my feathers and gave me a good laugh. Years ago I had an office mate who had recently turned 45 and I referred to someone I met as "older" because he/she was in their mid 40s. He did not take kindly to that. :D I have only been around Android for a little less than a year, but started with Palm when it was the Palm Pilot and PCs when all you had was a DOS prompt. This is a great forum, I continue to learn from all of you, plus appreciate the humor and respect here.

While I'm honestly not "old" I remember having to configure the autoexec.bat and config.sys files within DOS to get certain programs/games to work. I bet that only a small percentage of people here remember doing that :D I just could never remember when to turn "echo" on or off

Did that many of times.

Strange, even though it was such a pain modifying those files, or having to remember DOS commands and switches, it was somewhat satisfying when you got something working. Now, it seems that if it doesn't work, most people don't have the patience anymore and just run to the Geek squad. :(

Perhaps why I enjoy tinkering around with Android, and will never enjoy the Apple "experience".

That's my era as well.

Wasn't that so much fun? :)

Oh, BURN!

LOL! I enjoy one-click root methods now...but I know what's going on behind the scenes...and I always know how to revert things if something goes wrong. Many people miss that point cause it involves too much reading.

Shortcuts are great...but when your device doesn't boot, they won't help ya.

But OT...I'm sure the lady at B&N knew all that :D

ditto!

When I told my 17-year old that I rooted my NC (first, I had to explain what that meant - sheesh, kids these days!), he was AMAZED. "Doesn't that void your warranty?" Why, yes it does, I said. But if I break it, I can afford to get another one. Now, go get a job, kid.......:p

Have I mentioned that you crack me up?? :) I needed your smart@ss humor today HC!!

Hahahahahahahahahahaha. I remember those days. Using MemMaker to get the 7th Guest to run properly. The good old days of using DOS commands. It actually helps when using ADB.
