Help Htc hero no sound due to headphone logo, but no headphone is plug in

Hey, i got this problem, the headphone logo is on my htchero, but there is not headphone plug in, therefore i got no sound unless i plug in my headphone, but when i take it out, the logo is still there.

to make it worst, i now cannot sync to upgrade the software.

i did a master reset, and the headphone logo is still active.

Please anybody has the same problem help me out.

All i did was switch off my phone and turn it back on, this happen.

right this is a shot in the dark so i cant say it will work but a friend of mine had a similar problem with his iphone saying the headphone jack was connected. on the iphone theres a small micro switch in the jack socket that pushed when the headphones are inserted and this got jamed resulting in the phone thinking the jack was connected. apple tech support just told him to put the jack in and out a few times to see if it would loosen the switch and it worked. so give that ago but as i said it might not work cuz for all i know the hero might not use a mirco switch.

is your phone rooted or not? you could to try installing the rom on it again and see if that clears it id also do a full wipe before reinstalling the rom incase it could be something in the memory so bear im mind ul lose all ur stuff.
But if its unrooted you wont be able to do that as u need to be able to htc sync up which u mentioned you cant.

if none work them im afraid it will be a visit to a repair shop unless anybody else has a solution

Seen a few threads about this, think concensus was that its something like the microswitch problem mjcook mentioned, and also that there is an app you can download which enables you to turn the headphones on/off independently of the microswitch. Cant remember the name of the app, but if you have a search for the threads you should find it there.

I think its more software than hardware as I got it the 1st time the other day when trying to order a pizza. I couldnt speak to them and tried calling back 3 times until I realised what the problem was. After rebooting I got a call back from the shop asking why I kept calling and hanging up.

Hey,after sending the hero two times to being repaired without fixing the problem, i opened it by removing 6 screws and saw that 1-2 parts or tapes have been loose. the problem is caused by these loose parts/tapes!!! to remove headphone-button you have to push lightly a point between the two buttons "search" and "back". Try it and report if it

I have the same problem however I get sound when the USB is plugged in. The headset logo is still visible during this time. I did try pushing the micro switch with a needle and the headset logo disapears and this makes the sound play, however when I let go of it is shuts down again. I don't know what to do other then send it in for repair........

I had this problem but it was definitely a software issue. I never use headphones. It only appears if i turn off and on the phone too many times within a short period of time (few minutes). You can get rid of it by poking a headphone around in it until it disappears or turning off the phone and letting it sit for about 5 minutes and turning it back on. Its a recurring problem that ive dealt with with those 2 methods many many times
