Got it.. thanks man.. and thanks to all who worked on this.. I must say this... the video you made was a bit different than the one that mikekelso made...

Once in the LGNPST.. where you say to select the Bin file.. you said to select MS690ZV3_36.tot (or something like that).. the one that mikekelso made he said to select the one that says .bin (this one is the one that worked for me).

No wonder... lol... when I tried it.. my phone was bricked and I got super scared.. but then I tried it again using the .bin and it worked.. but thanks a bunch for your efforts.

One thing tho.. I thought all optimus M690 came with 2.2.1.. is this not the case?
On your video, it looks like you have the same as mine which is the M690.

I think that from late december or early january the optimus M has been shipping with 2.2.1

But older phones came with 2.2 which means that you can use recovery menu and overclock which is not possible on 2.2.1

Hey guys... now that I have my optimus M rooted.. how can I change the main screen shortcuts on the bottom of the screen.. like the phone icon, phonebook, messaging and the web icon... can these be changed or moved?

I have root manager, but cant find where to change or move these.
Another thing.. can I download apps that cost money for free?.. like on iphones.. if you root them you don't have to pay for any apps... is this the case with rooted optimus phones?

Also... how can I remove the MetroPCS logo from the locked screen?

You don't need to be root to change your dock icons (phone, contacts, sms, browser.) With the stock LG launcher just open the apps drawer, long press on the icon you want and it'll jump to your home screen, DON'T LET GO OF IT and drag it to the dock wherever you want to place it.

Ok... I see what you're saying.. I was holding down the icon on the main screen so the only option I was getting was to delete it.. so I need to be on the apps menu... ok... got it...

With the stock launcher you only have a choice of 5 or 7. You need to dl an alternative. I'm using GO Launcher EX (free in the market) and you can choose from 1 to 10 screens but there are plenty of others to try and find one you personally like.

When I do this the only option is xp sp2. When I click that and try it, I still receive the same error message.

So in your case I'm assuming either UAC is preventing you from making the change or you probably need run do this with elevated privileges.

Hello I have followed all directions to the T. I get to the point after I enter my SPC code, LGNPST runs for approximately 10 seconds and then I get an error stating " ERROR: Unable to load [LGNPST_PortManager5.dll] Component Path = C:\LG Electronics\Components 5.0\LGNPST_PortManager5.dll Version = HR= 0x0" I've uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers and software multiple times. I ran reggie.exe in compatability mode as I am running Windows 7 32 bit. I'm kind of out of answers. If anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you

OK so I disabled my antivirus this time and ran LGNPST.exe in admin mode and so far everythings going well and I'm not encountering the same error. Will update when finished.

Never mind I disabled UAC on my computer, dragged the .dll file onto reggie and registration was successful! Now on with the rest of the steps lol.

super noobie question, but this is the first time even attempting something like this on my phone..

I'm suppose to be doing this shit on my computer right?? I've downloaded the LG drivers, installed all three, restarted when prompted. Now i'm downloading the z4root.zip package with the busy box and other file.. Just want to make sure i'm doing it right.. I've skimmed thru the rest of the steps kinda and can't figure out when my PHONE is suppose to come into play? sorry for the lack of experience.. :/. but i wanna do this stuff right the first time. thanks!

Actually the first step is looking at your phone. Your steps will change depending on if you have 2.2 or 2.2.1. Menu Button -> Settings -> About phone -> Scroll to OS Version. If you've got 2.2, you won't even be using this thread. If you've got 2.2.1, you won't be using z4root.
