Need Advice

I am currently wanting to move to T-Mobile from Verizon but my contract isn't up till April. But that is not my main concern.

The issue I have is one of the main reason's I want to move to T-Mobile is because they have the no-contract deal, at least for the time being, $80 buys you a unlimited everything plan, a month to month plan. But with that said, I would have to buy a unlocked phone which is running about $500 and up depending on the phone.

Here is another kicker, the HD2 announced yesterday to be coming to T-Mobile in the spring is the phone I have wanted since it came out Thanksgiving in Europe but I know that if I want that phone with T-Mobile at a subsidized price I would have to get into a 2-yr contract with T-Mobile. The HD2 can be bought now and used with T-Mobile but no one is selling it for less then $750.

Anyone have any suggestions to help me out? Thanks, I appreciate it.

thats is true but you can add a guaranteed 20 dollars to your bill because of it..that sucks. just save and buy one if you want the no contract deal. ill be getting anew phone probably within the next 2 months.. ill sell you my mytouch..lol. its only a month old

- 500 minutes/mo., $29.99
- Free texting, Google Voice
- Unlimited data, $10 web2go
- Unlimited PSTN calling out to US/Canada, $3/mo Skype Out

I just don't have unlimited inbound, but for the cost savings, I'll survive. Any difference in cost I have to make up for unlock vs subsidised, will be easily made up in the first year.

How would a new T-Mobile customer obtain this plan? The cheapest no contract I'm seeing on their website is $59/month for 500 min / unlimited text / unlimited data.

I just got my N1 an hour ago and will be going to a TM retail shop in a couple of hours.

Thanks for the responses. There are currently no T-Mobile offered phones that I am interested in. I looked at the N900 but like most Nokia's in the past, it seems too proprietary in relation to its software as cool as Maemo might be, does not seem to function too practically for me as just a phone.

When I do move to T-Mobile I definitely want to get the unlimited everything plan, one of the reasons I want to switch in the first place. I just spoke to a rep. at a T-Mobile store and they told me about the phone plan you guys just mentioned that the full price of the phone can be broken up into 20 months and if I decide to move to another carrier before the 20 months is up then I would be billed for the remaining balance on the phone.

I think I will just wait till April till my Verizon contract is up and get the HD2 under contract. I really dont want to be a ridiculous amount(over $500 out of pocket) for a phone.

I mentioned the 900 because its an "unlocked" phone. If you get an "unlocked" phone, you can save $15/mo on the data...but you have to do what's best for you.

There are not too many unlocked GSM phones available for purchase in the US at a reasonable price, like I said before, you would be hard pressed to find a unlocked GSM smartphone for under $500. But T-Mobile said the non-contracted price for 1000 mins and unlimited everything else is $70 as opposed to $90 with a contracted plan so that $20 savings a month adds up, another thing I gotta think about.

Not sure where you are getting that amount from. For new customers without a contract for unlimited everything under the Even More Plus plan is $79.99. If you have some sort of hookup that gets you that price then thats one thing but T-Mobile makes it pretty clear on there site that $79.99 is the price.

I did a line item price listimg in the 4th post of this thread...new account for me as of Dec. '09.

I even get to mask my Skype out calls with my cell phone's number. Again, the only thing I don't get is unlimited "inbound". Even if I just have to call a person back, its not an issue given the cost savings. Especially when you consider that you don't need to pay extra to get a "Friend's and Family plan" to get the free calls with GVoice.

I'm confused on this also. You're saying you can get 500 voice minutes for 29. okay. and free texting outbout with google voice (using the website) which means incoming texts to your phone are counted. But where is this $10 data plan? Unsupported Browser

I looked up web2go and its very vague. is this really the internet or just http traffic?

1. select an "Even More Plus" (no contract plan)...choose minutes only (no text or web add-on).

2. When you are prompted to select a phone, on the left side of the screen, where you can filter your selections, choose the "Standalone SIM card" from the check boxes...add it to your cart.

3. When prompted for "services" choices, choose the Unlimited Web/web2Go for $10/mo.

I can get to all the websites I want, use my SIP client, receive all my email, and managed 2.9Mb download speed, per speakeasy.net/speedtest, in Philly's upgraded network. If you need more access than that, you may need another plan?
