Coming from an Iphone4 to Droid X to Thunderbolt, camera quality was a concern. The iphone4 is superior than the Droid X's, while the Thunderbolt is definitely better than the Droid X, but I'm not sure it's as good as the iphone 4's.

NOTE: iphone3gs, 3g, 2g all sux compared to even the droid x.

Could you post an iPhone4 vs. TB pic?

If I call the guy I sold it to on craigslist I could, lol.

ALl joking aside, I'll go by there again after work and check for a demo iphone4 and take a pic if I can. Off presonal experience with the iphone4, it was amazing quality for a phone, better than I would expect from a thunderbolt, but I really haven't had a chance to put the thunderbolt to the test.

The quality of the camera cannot be judged by taking a few indoor shots. You need to test it out under a wide variety of lighting conditions in order to make an informed decision. I am not saying that you should be conducting all kinds of experiments, but it should be interesting to see how it performs in outdoor conditions and while recording video

I agree, however, based off the indoor shot alone, I think there is a big difference in quality, and that would show similar promise for outdoor shots as well...hopefully.

the blur, lighting, colors all are much better in the thunderbolt. (per that shot). My only concern was if it was equal too or less than quality than the droid x.

I have used the iPhone, Droid incredible, and now the Droid thunderbolt. The picture quality surpasses the iPhone 4 by far. It has a mechanical shutter for faster capture, 8 mp with several settings for personal pleasure including exposure. There is no comparing the two. The thunderbolt is in a total different class. I don't think sitting at best buy looking over the phone and taking 2 pix qualifies for an "educated" opinion. For those needing a true opinion the thunderbolt takes amazing pictures. Very quickly too, because of the mechanical shutter. It is by far the nicest camera for those interested in quality, quick snap shots with a good amount of customizable options.

That's strange. My wife is a photographer at a professional level who went from the iPhone4 to the Thunderbolt and she's very disappointed in the TBolt's camera quality. She can't carry her big equipment with her everywhere so she likes to have a good camera phone for random stuff and outings with the kids.

Her complaints are:
-The shutter response time from shoot is way longer compared to the ip4 making it much harder to capture timed shots
-The images colors aren't as "true" and have a bad yellow tint requiring more editing if she wants to do more than just send it via text
-There is no exposure adjustment. With the ip4, you can calibrate it by clicking on a darker spot which immediately adjusts exposure on the fly.

I didn't buy it and assumed there had to be adjustments to fix all these things, but we went through it and compared and she was totally right. Now I feel bad for talking her into the TBolt.

Also, on a side note, when sending images via texting, when she was on AT&T, the pictures were much better, VZ compresses it poorly. I've compared it as well and confirmed. Trust me, I didn't want to believe any of it after talking this phone up, but she totally proved every point to me with the phones side by side shooting and texting pictures.

Don't get me wrong, this phone rocks (IMO), but camera quality does NOT pass the iPhone4, unfortunately.

If she is a pro and wants portability, she should at least be carrying a Canon S95, Panasonic GF2 with a prime lens, or a Sony Nex with a prime lens. Or if you have money to burn, a Leicia X1.

With 4 small kids, you learn carry as little as possible cause you usually have to carry a kid, their jackets, shoes, and whatever else they decide to take off.

We thankfully retired the compact point and shoots when the iPhone4 came out feeling it was finally high enough quality to do so. So we're either at an important event with the Cannon 5D Mark II and a huge bag of lenses as if we're shooting for National Geographic, or just out and about with the camera phone for an occasional shot of the kids being crazy.

Not asking for much, just that the latest and greatest Android with an 8MP camera be at least on par with iPhone's 5 MP camera from LAST SUMMER lol.

SO you have no pictures from when you owned the i4 no where on your computer? You shouldt say the i4 takes a better picture if you have nothing to compare it to the other 2. Its a cellphone who cares how good it takes a picture. Its there for those just in case moment. If I want a great picture I will break out my Nikon D-5000.

I've never used the camera on any iPhone, so I can't compare that, but I agree with the shots. I had a DX, and my husband had one longer than me. I traded to the INC mainly because of the camera. The INC camera was far better, as is the T-Bolt. The DX pictures were always blurry. With the INC and T-Bolt, with no settings tweaked, I get great shots.
