Eris update mr2 is official.

I was one of the people who installed the leak yesterday. The update with the official release went with out a hitch. Not sure if the official is different from the leak. Will check out shortly.

PCD is the manufacture of the Eris. This is the official upgrade. If you choose to do it manually this is where to download it. If you upgraded with the leak you wont get an OTA push. If there were any last minute changes, I dont know, but its there for the download now.

Can someone explain exactly what this is. Is this the 2.0 software or what? I don't want to install it and end up not getting official updates in the future. And what is OTA?
Thanks
ok, ill handle this...

this is the second scheduled update for the eris. MR1 (maintnence release 1) was released in December. And MR2 is the second release. These updates are to fix some bugs, minor and major, in the original release for this device. there are 2 ways to do it.
1. Download from www.pcdphones.com and load thru usb cable.
2. Wait for VZW to "push" the update to your phone, prompting you to update OTA (Over The Air).

Info regarding these updates have been available in THESE FORUMS for a couple of months.
Please feel free to SEARCH the FORUM for further information.

Here you go. You will notice some of the items are marked for Dec 11 and some for Jan 22.

This info has been available on this site since Nov 11

If I update via Usb, will it screw up anything and will I get future updates just fine? Has anyone noticed any difference?
You will get future updates. if you update with usb back up your contacts with gmail or htc sync. you will need to resetup your phone(prefs, downloads, etc). if you wait until the ota, it "should" save your setup, but im a firm believer in backing up and never take the chance for data loss for granted.

I think it runs a little faster and smoother. Wont really know until I get my apps reinstalled and a little burn in time.

At any rate, this is what we have until the BIG update. Dont know when it will come out.

How ever you want to do the update is up to you. Its a matter of taste. Coming from a Blackberry, Im comfortable with the usb cable.

Gmail does a good job syncing your contacts and calendar. app manager for cupcake is free in the market and will back up/restore your apps to sd card.

good luck

Well pretty sure HTC is the manufacturer of the Eris not PCD HTC Mobile Phones - DROID ERIS Verizon - Overview and since it is running the HTC SENSE overlay of android it would have to be since that is proprietary HTC stuff....

I also believe it's a bit more responsive and fluid. Can't beat that!
