AT&T to buy T-mobile for 39 billion!!!!

It eliminated GSM competition in the U.S. which may not be a good thing. We will have to see what it does to prices. It will improve overall coverage for us AT&T customers though.

There is simple mobile for gsm but just like tmobile irrelevant. Pricing won't change because there is still tmobile and sprint. Coverage for existing tmobile ATT customers will increase and strengthen almost instantly

The smaller carriers are insignificant. Don't get me wrong, I love AT&T, but diversity is a good thing both with carriers and manufacturers. Remember the old Ma Bell monopoly?

This will not even be close to a monopoly it will be massively beneficial. Pentaband phones which can be used all over the country and all over the world. Faster speeds stronger network and the fastest most solid 4G network in the USA and all by next year

It is both good and bad.

Good to have a single larger GSM network. More coverage for a customer. More of population covered by a single network. AT&T also inherits whatever roaming arrangements T-Mobile had. There are probably other good points.

Bad is to have less competition and less choice. It gets us closer to a monopoly. Already there is too little competition. Less is worse.

The least Android friendly company swallows up the most Android friendly company. T-Mobile was the first to have Android. AT&T was the last and with the worst initial lineup of Android phones once they got them.

So keep that in mind before you think it's all Unicorns and Rainbows.

has anyone else thought about possible cons?

Tmobile has been a pretty avid supporter of android..

At&t has been more unfriendly and although they have recently opened their arms..

Nexus one was for tmo.
Nexus S was for tmo.
Before that they sported G1.

There is a reason google went with tmo over at&t even if they did feature a nexus one with at&t 3g bands briefly..

Google went with tmobile because tmobile gave them carte blanche. ATT already had given carte blanche to Apple at the time so it was the only choice with a gsm network.

Buying tmobile could dramatically change the way ATT deals with android. I hear the android team from tmobile is staying put. Also ATT is gonna receive the Nexus line now they will push that as they used to push iPhone. Maybe then the nexus line can become an actual player in the market

I don't know where you get your info, but if true, it would be a good thing for AT&T to get the Nexus line.

As long as it remains an open developer phone.

If so, then it very well may be my next AT&T phone.

My uncle works for ATT corporate. It seems the Android team at tmobile is held in high regard so is tmobile customer service. They want to retain as many if not all. He also said that they want the nexus line to be their new iPhone

That explains a lot.

I am happy to hear that. I hope it is true. I hope they do. I am skeptical, but I would be delighted to see AT&T open up on Android.

I am also happy to hear that. It is about time AT&T got over the iPhone.

Thanks for the info.
