guitar amp for android would be nice

hi all,

just a thought , seeing as iphone/ipod/ipad users have got access to the brilliant amplitube guitar software, wouldn't it be nice to see it on android too. well the hardware should work (basically uses an adaptor fitted to the mic/headphone socket to pick up the guitar feed and output the sound at the same time) but they have not committed to android at all.

not saying it will happen but would be nice to have some more support.

edit..... Ikmultimedia have since replied and stated that there are limitations within the android operating system which make it impossible to use it as a platform for their software at the moment. Thanks for looking anyway.

I had a similar program for Windows Mobile. It had nice effects, but the latency was way to long to make it useful for anything. How does the iPhone program work?

On Windows Mobile there were also good applications for multitrack recordings, and even a hardware/software combo to give professional digital stereo recordings. That would also be a nice addition for Android.

I have also developed a guitar amplifier app for Android.

It is called Ghettoamp and is just released on the market.

Regarding the latency, I do not think it is possible to get around it with the current sound API (please prove me wrong!). This will hopefully be fixed in upcoming Android versions and I will follow this issue closely.

Nope, they state that they have tried, but they could not reduce latency enough. I have no reason to doubt them.

Can someone please explain to me how the iRig works? My impression was that the app changed what the output of the ipod sounded like (sort of like an equalizer). That sound change would be transfered to the iRig and affect the guitars tone when it passes through the iRig. Am I wrong?

Regarding multitrack recordings, I did find this app a couple days ago. I haven't actually had time to try it out though.

I think the problem lays in the Android operating system sound drivers. Latency in music apps is nearly always down to drivers. What someone needs to do is port a driver such as Asio4All to the Android platform and then we should be good to go. There are no limitations in the hardware as far as I am aware, especially so with all the dual processor phones and tabs on the market right now. So I think if someone could solve the driver issues there may be a chance to convince companies like IK, Peavey etc to port Amplitube to Android. Unless of course they have some exclusive deal with Apple that we are not being told about?
