Help Docking/Apps/Camera Issues...Should I Return?

i've been having a couple issues with my droid, and i'm wondering if these are problems that warrant me returning my current droid for exchange (it's still in the 30 day window).

i'm using the stock home screens, very few widgets. had home ++ for a while but uninstalled it. here are the issues:

1) when i try to add an app to a home screen, it takes a full (at least, slow count) 15 seconds for the apps ("select activity") screen to come up. that's quite a freaking lag. is that normal?

2) my droid's magnet might be screwy. when i put it into the car dock, it does not usually go to the nav screen, or even into landscape, the first time. i usually have to take it back out and try again. most of the time it works (after a lag) on the 2nd try, but sometimes it takes 3 times taking it back out and putting back in. there's always a lag before it goes to the nav screen or into landscape. also, when i put it in the desk dock, there is also a lag before it will go to the dock screen. often it will sit at the unlock screen (not in landscape) for a while before finally going to the dock screen.

3) the physical camera button is almost impossible to get to take a photo. sometimes i can get it to click a photo, but more often it just tries to focus, clicking clicking, but never takes the photo. and my photos are beyond crappy. it's like the 2.0.1 update never happened.

since i'm still in the 30 day window, i want to see if you all think i should take this back and try a new unit. i don't want to get stuck with a bad one. this is also my 2nd droid; my first developed touchscreen issues after about 20 days, with a big dead spot on the screen and then the unit randomly starting apps and clicking things on its own. weird.

any help/suggestions you have would be helpful. thanks!

that's weird. I would take it back for Issue #1 alone. I just timed my own "long-press" to see how long it takes for the apps to come up.

My result: "one-one-thousand"

So like a second, not even 2.

that's very screwy.

it's not the initial long press, that brings up the "add to home screen" menu. it's after you click on "shortcuts" and then the next menu, the "select shortcut" comes up after about 5 seconds. then when i click "applications", it takes that huge 15 second gap to bring up. it's almost like the phone forgot all about it, then finally you get the screen. how long is that lag for you?

Ah, ok, I see what you mean.

It takes it less than 3 seconds.

Take it back.

Mine took almost 20 seconds when I performed that sequence just now, but less than 3 on subsequent attempts.

I never tried that before, have always just dragged and dropped the icon from the app tray which has been quick and painless.

yeah, that's exactly what I do, too, just drag and drop. Much easier.

Having said that (Curb Your Enthusiasm, anyone?), I think that if it takes her that long to bring up the app menu, it may be signs of something deteriorating or not up-to-par.

I don't know why I assume the OP is a "she", but I do.

i am! "gidget" is a sort of female-ish moniker. also, was that a crack?

turns out, it does come up faster on subsequent tries if i actually add an app to the home screen the first time. but then if i wait a few minutes and then go back to it, it lags again. it's like it has to think extra long to compile all my apps after a few minutes of not working with them. i don't have *that* many apps.

Ah, that's why I thought you were a girl. Although it's before my time, I liked watching reruns of Gidget, lol.

And no, that was not a crack!

Well, it's up to you. If you can deal with it, then go ahead and keep it. But I wouldn't like it. I don't have much info on any of the other complaints you had, unfortunately.

i think you're right, i need to take this back. i just tried adding apps directly from the app drawer (which i am heartily embarrassed to say i didn't even know you could do...i know, i've hit myself, you don't need to bother), and that worked great. but i'm also concerned about the weird docking problems, too, and just in general the sort of degradation of the phone over the last couple weeks. perhaps the third droid will be the charm. i'm sure it will be charming trying to get a verizon store rep to let me exchange this, but here's hoping all goes well. anyone have any experience with trying to exchange? i would imagine it varies greatly from shop to shop. (and by the way, the first one i got online from another place, not verizon, and had to return, then went out and bought one from a verizon store...so it'll be my third droid, but only the first time i'm exchanging at a verizon store.)

Well, they might have you get a refurbished one in the mail. It sounds bad, but there have been many people saying refurbs are better than even brand new ones because they get thoroughly tested and are buttoned down very well.

I got a refurbed Eris before I switched to the Droid, and it worked great. I ended up getting the Droid because I wanted a bigger screen.

But they might give you a new one from the store if you ask VERY nicely, I don't know.
