I updated the available 2.2 yesterday but ALL the Samsung Widgets are removed from the phone. No new widgets, even the weather widget is gone and no replacement even in apps etc.

why?

Added Problems not mentioned:
- Bluetooth audio problems
- generic email account not working (emails cannot be tagged for deletion)
- MAP/GPS not working, my location does not update not accurate
- market widgets not installing or working properly
- voice dial prompts don't appear nor heard, dials best guess without confirming the command

All the Froyo problems are gone with the new phone under the stock 2.1 build. however, voice dial and bluetooth support for devices is a problem.
- voice dials cannot be triggered in this stock build
- Voice dial app is the worst I have seen in 3 other Android phones. there is no audio prompting nor confirmation of commands
- of two bluetooth devices only one will connect (Jaba ear piece, while my bluetooth mirror is paired. It will not connect to this phone but did with 3 others).

Froyo update for the Telus phones is a known problem installing and effectively bricks the phone. Only possible way out is going non OEM and overwriting with possibly ODIN but that kills the warranty if it works and should not be necessary if Samsung had their scripts well written.

Just curious: did you upgrade from stock, and followed the instructions exactly?
Precisely, its fully virgin Telus phone. The upgrade was done through the Kies official software which has an auto check for firmware upgrade as its called. It presents the user to upgrade and once clicked on its pretty much a hands off everything until it finishes. Thats what I did and it did not take the update correctly so I am told. The kicker is that Samsung did not allow for it to be reapply the same updated so there is no way any of us can resolve a problem once it goes south.

The thing also is you'll want to do it while your phone is under warranty, that way you can at least have Samsung or the carrier fix it. I'll wait for a while before trying it on the new replacement this time. The tech I spoke to said others have had the same problem. Hence they have not addressed variables or other communications factors in prepping the phones update. I think they'll update the scripts and tools on the installer they use to more sophisticated and intelligent in doing what it needs done.

You do realize over at XDA I've had the odin files of the actual release about a month now? ;)

No, but I just read most of the forum and theres some confusion there. My phone is not rooted. Samsung did release a T959D update which does NOT work. Many of there customers are having the same problem I have. I was not looking for a root solution. But in the interum I'll hold off on any updates until my reading catches up. This is new to me and Murphy is an unwelcome buddy!!! Working on phone number 4

Well mine should be here within the week but I had the Bell Vibrant and the Samsung Task Manager disappeared on their Froyo so I'm not terribly surprised.

Unfortunately the rest of my phone disappeared because I was a victim of the SGS Internal Memory Issue which happened 3 days after the upgrade... :(

Oh, What is the SGS memory issue? Ignore I found a thread on XDA although not Fascinate issue as it goes. I was wondering if it was an issue with the micro SD card they use.

PS: I have updated the 1st post with additonal issues after the update and results from the new phone tests.

I got another phone and updated the firmware. It went through fine and everything appears normal and now working. The widgets and especially the weather widget is gone. They have some other ones but nothing you can place on the home screen only the weather incorporated into the Daily Breifing Widget which is three components and even untagging the other two not to display. It still need an entire screen space to reside on smack in the middle.

The voice dial app is so so bad it cannot be used at all.
- it never seem to understand commands and never confirms any guesses, it just does whatever it thing it heard
- sitting silently with it activated. It will determine you wanted these numbers dialed and do so as well without confirmation
- you have to reach to the phone and end call 99% of the time since its wrong and cannot be corrected.

I am forced to use touch speed dial dialing with my bluetooth. That's the only way currently. I have not found another dialer that works favourably on the Market and Vlingo requires a data connection to work at all.

Maybe they have fixed some of the problems. I now have a Samsung Fascinate (Telus) phone. I did the upgrade today. None of the previously mentioned problems have surfaced. GPS works fine, voice dial OK. I didn't try the Bluetooth as I do not use any of those devices.

The Accuweather widget has recently been made available via download on Samsung Apps (App) on the phone. It itself is also updated to a new version with HOT, NEW tabs and categories. This app is 9mb but works find and supports multiple cities or locations with an analogue clock in the middle.

I not certain whether this is factual but I read last week that 2.3 is being built for this Galaxy. I hope so and they fix the voice dialer or rather replace it with one that works and does not continue with incorrect interpretation as this one does.
