Playing a video transferred from PC to HTC Hero

Hello friends

I'm new on this forum and I'm really sorry if this has already been responded to in the past, but I'll detail how I'm trying to do it.

Basically, I need to know if there is a way for watching .WMV videos on the HTC Hero.

I already know that it will play MPEG-4 videos without a problem (you can use the RealPlayer Video Downloader to download HQ/HD videos from places like Youtube and it automatically saves them to MPEG-4 format).

However, I want to transfer some files like music videos onto my HTC Hero and having tried several times, using the RealPlayer Converter, to convert the .mpg files to .wmv, I can't watch them on the Hero.

However, I recently looked at one of the threads (I think on a different forum) and he said that he could watch videos in WMV format using 750kbps on resolution 480x320. But RealPlayer only allows for 768kbps and resolution as 480p HD as the nearest possible (which was the setting I ordinarily chose).

The other strange thing is that when I go onto the Albums part of the phone to see if I can view any videos, it shows a thumbnail image of the music video (a preview image of the video) and when I play it, I can hear the music, but the video itself fails to appear.

I never had this problem on my LG Viewty. I'd be very grateful if anyone could please advise whether there is a fix to this. I think it's really strange HTC or even Android recklessly missed out on enhancing video playback. Once again, I'd be very grateful if you could please help me out here.

It's actually not that strange that HTC or Google didn't provide a full-featured video player. They only need to make their hardware capable and software able to play video for marketing purposes. I've been looking for VLC to come out with an android port but haven't seen that yet. In the meantime, what you could do is convert the video with Super Converter (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.htm). It's free and will let you convert into any format you want.

I'm actually surprised at the fact that it says that .wmv playback is supported but when you do transfer a .wmv video onto the Hero, it doesn't play it at all. I even downloaded the Windows Media Encoder and it still doesn't do it. I wouldn't want a top of the state video player; if HTC or Android just configured the codecs properly, then I (and perhaps other people) wouldn't have this problem!

So if I convert videos using this, it should play videos on the Hero without a problem? Did it do it for you too?

Also, is there a specific setting I need to choose when converting to .wmv or .mpeg?

I have used a free downloadable program called "videora" to convert video clips that will play on Sprint Hero.

Videora is a nice video to android converter... As for me, im used to using Daniusoft android video converter to convert various mainstream video .WMV/ .MPG /.AVI/.FLV/.MKV etc. to my HTC hero-friendly fornat for watching, It is already optimized for output setting for android phone... easy-to-use.
