Keyboard tightness???

For those who have had a Shift since near release: Has the slider loosened up? Do any of you worry that it will become loose?

I know display models go through the mill in stores, but I've seen Shifts in Radio Shack and Best Buy that were almost falling apart. As a prospective Shift owner, I'm concerned.

The only phones any Radio Shack or Best Buy I've ever been to have are non-functioning, fake demo units, and are probably not a good indicator of build quality or durability.

My keyboard has become slightly less stiff since release, which is a good thing (it is really stiff out of the box--especially if you are using a case). Today, it is by no means loose nor does it give any when it is in my pocket, etc.

I would go to a Sprint store and check out their working display unit. I think you will find the keyboard remains in good shape.

But yes, my Shift has also loosened up a little after a month now but I also consider that a good thing. Like Machiavel1ian mentioned, when it's straight from the box, it's pretty stiff. I'm pretty sure it will not become loose, I've had slider phones from LG, Samsung and HTC and none of them ever failed me.

My experience is consistent with the other two respondents. The night I brought it home, my 18 year old daughter turned her nose up to it because the action was so stiff. Now it's much better.

i added a rubberized case to the shift and it tightened up the slide back to virgin status ..

Yeah the volume rocker is a little awkward now I have to relearn how to use a fold out keyboard.

I hope it does get better but I've only had the phone a week. Thanks for the assurance it'll get easier!

I've only had my phone a couple if weeks but the keyboard is already a lot looser than I'd like. Im wondering if I exchange it for a new if it would be any better after a few weeks of use or if It's just the way the phone is

I've had my Shift for almost 2 months now and the keyboard feels about the same as the day I got it. I don't use the physical keyboard a whole lot, so that probably helps, but it seems like it has a lot of life left in it.

The techs at the Sprint Store last night (34th street, NYC) told me that they only ever get these phones back for physical damage issues. Broken screens, sliders, sliders, and ports. Would the Sprint case fix this?

I've had my Shift for less than a week and with a lot of use of the keyboard I will say that it has loosened up for sure. My girlfriend got one too and doesn't use the keyboard so I did a side by side comparison.

This is the one thing I'm not sure I can stay happy with, but I will put on a case and hopefully that helps tighten it back up some.

I dropped my phone the other night and the top of my seidio innocase popped off and I noticed that the keboard was pretty lose and had a lot of play, as in I could pull one end down and it would move probably a half centimeter while the other side did not move ... sort of wobbly, if you will. However, with the case on, it's nice and tight -- takes concerted effort to slide the keyboard out. That "wobble" is still there, but much less noticeable.

yeah, same thing happened to me after i took off my case. i sorta regret ever putting a case on in the first place. the case also left some dents on the bottom half of the phone, where the little hooks attach to the phone. i really wish htc had used a spring mechanism in the slider.

I have the sprint case on it and the keyboard feels smooth i dont mind that is loosednd up. I hope it dosent get more than it is.

I use my keyboard constantly, all day long. I've had the phone since the week it came out, and it's not excessively loose at all. I think it's perfect actually.

I also have the sprint case on it. I hope its not marking it up underneath. keyboard slider does feel a little stiff, but the phone itself feels solid.

I was having the same problem with a wobbling keyboard after only a month. I considered swapping it out at the store, but they said it would be replaced with a refurbished one. What I did that seemed to help lock the keyboard back into place and stop the wobbling was shove a little piece of plastic underneath the metal brackets on the backside of the screen in the grooves. For a size reference, I used the end of a plastic toothpick and it holds tight now. Probably not the best solution, but I'm satisfied.
