Eris Not Receiving Texts

Hi all. I just purchased my Eris earlier in the week on the Verizon network. I have not been able to receive any text messages from my friends who are using AT&T and Sprint. They receive mine, but I do not get their's. I can receive text messages from a friend who uses Verizon. Verizon said it was my friends' problem and not theirs.

I installed Handcent to see if that would help, but it did not.

Any suggestions on what I need to do?

Thanks!

Perchance are they sending MMS messages (multimedia)... are you sure they are sending text-only SMS messages? Plain text messages less than 160 characters seems to be pretty robust between carriers, but all bets are off when it comes to MMS.

I experience issues going the other direction to AT&T customers (1) texts over 160 chars get split, and only the first text is delivered; (2) iPhone (AT&T) customers seem to not receive picture attachments; (3) other AT&T customers not using iPhones sometimes receive pictures, and sometimes receive "message corrupted" notices.

etc etc.

As far as I know, they are sending SMS texts. One friend is sending messages from a regular cell phone and one from an iPhone.

My wife told me she's experiencing a weird issue as well. When she sends me a msg she gets this back "FWD: Message delivered to (phone number here) as plain text. Destination does not support Enhanced Messaging Service."

Anyone wanna clue me in to what this means? We both have verizon. I have a Eris, she has and env2 and an LG touch screen but neither are "smart" phones.

I am having the same problem with my eris. On all my previous phones I have been able to send and receive 160+ character messages within the network without any problem yet after switching to the eris, messages with 160+ characters I receive are spilt up and accompanied by this message "preceding message modified, Media objects were removed" even when no media objects were present in the message from sender. At the same time, the sender receives this message "message delivered as plain text as destination does not support enhanced messaging service," leading me to believe that this is a problem on my side. If so, why does the eris not support enhanced messaging? It would seem that to be a competitive smart phone, it would have been bright of them to include that option.

My wife and I had this problem as well (she has the Rogue and I have the Eris)... I called tech support and the tech had me run an update on my wifes phone as well as a reset. That solved it.

Not sure if it would solve your problem, but we had the same problem (and we are also both on Verizon), so it's worth a try.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the info. I'll try it and post back with results.

Had this problem last spring/summer. My issue was that my number was coded into their system incorrectly. A company called Verisign handles texts for ATT and Sprint. Tier 2 Technical support had me get friends to send texts to me while on the phone with TS so they could see if they were coming into the system Verizon uses. They werent so Verizon had the company that handles their texts contact Verisign and we finally got the solution. If you can suggest this to them, maybe they can get you a solution faster than I got mine.
Good Luck.

Nvm, I read your post wrong. But that's weird.

I get the same message if I accidentally type a message that is too long to my friend, who has data disabled on his Moto Q9c. That is sort of strange.
