Root Htc releases froyo kernel source!

Motorola did that out side of tmo because tmo stated they could not deliver it ota and moto had complete control over the update. Htc can't issue a manual update because the phone, though made by htc, is actually tmobiles to support. Tmo has 100% control of the mytouch 4g update process. After all only the base code is htc's the rest is all tmo development.

Learn something new everyday...I had assumed the tmobile branding was just part of some deal/agreement

Just use the CR mod rom...... it is 2.2 and runs flawlessly. 3 months on my Slide 0 force closes. Only downside is the lack of memory meaning you can't put as many apps on the phone without A2SD which you can download from the market and it works fine.

I use the 2.3.3 gingerbread CM7 rom. I don't like the sense rom they have. I don't like the hero style bar on the bottom. Plus it's only 2.2. I don't mind the vanilla, there's just two things that bother me though. No option to disable always on mobile data to save battery, and last used apps aren't in the notification bar like on sense. Those are the only 2 things I miss from sense. Oh yeah and no flash :( sense has flash lite. CM7 gingerbread has A2SD. I have 54 apps on my phone right now and my internal memory is 93mb! w00t

Um, just to point out something, the Kernel is not the whole operating system, just a part of it.

So yeah, like it has been said, this release is for developers who might want to modify or use this Kernel. Said developers could then use this source to put together a ROM that can be installed/flashed.

sweet so theres hope for rooted users down the road then with a working custom stock froyo rom!

Umm crmod's rom is espresso (meaning it looks like a stock mytouch slide not hero style).

I used CM7 and really don't see any features that I need that I don't have with 2.2.1 and I still have my nice looking UI.... and it seems faster than CM7 to me.

oh idk sorry im only a week new to root i'm still learning

[ROM] CR_Mod_2.13.531.1_OTA - xda-developers

is this it? ^ I wish they posted pics, or at least had a section specifically for rom downloads. Everything's confusingly scattered.

[Mod][Froyo/Sense]HaXspresso 2.2.1[1/30/2011] - xda-developers

or is this it? ^ that one looks and sounds better

It is the first one. I removed alot of bloatware prior to flashing.

It is the stock 2.2.1 that HTC gave T-mobile to release.

Yeah, you may have not had the correct ROM. The CR mod ([ROM] CR_Mod_2.13.531.1_OTA - xda-developers) is great and it has the things you were missing: the option to disable always on mobile data, last used apps in the notification menu, and flash lite. I second mwl1119's suggestion of removing bloatware before flashing. (Stuff like myTouch music, faves and faves widgets, or anything you don't want can be removed.)

Yeah I don't have mytouch music, faves widget, amazon mp3, im, quick office, or my account.

And my slide seems faster than my G2

I will leave the CR_Mod ROM on it until something wows me and CM7 just doesn't. Nothing is that much different from froyo and gingerbread...... and by the time ice cream sandwich is out T-mobile probably won't exist.

Now...... if they can get a sidekick ROM 100% working (well minus hspa21) on the slide I might flash that.
