Glad this came up. I'm new to Android....can someone explain Task Killing to me? I remember dealing with this on WinMo phones years ago, but I installed Advanced Killer (?) and when I open it, it shows tons of apps running that I never opened.

What happens when I kill them? What are some of the ones that should be ignored? I currently have the IM client and Music ignored, but not sure what else should be left alone.

These are the applications I put on the exclude list
Google Partner Setup
Messaging
Voice Search
Email
Bluetooth Share
Google Pinyin
Music
Voice DIaler
Clock
Sync feeds
Gmail
Launcher

Obviously your mileage may vary depending on what apps you installed

GREAT! This sort of goes along with my question. You exclude gmail...but why? So far, I've noticed that when I kill gmail, I still get notifications. What exactly is going on when I kill an app like gmail or Voice Search? Why should they be excluded?

I also excluded Google talk btw sorry didn't notice that.

Now, I never really tried to kill gmail app but im sure for those app that requires notification, they have services running in the background to do the notification. I exclude Gmail because sometimes I'm in the middle of reading email and going back to home. IIRC if you close it, it won't save your state which means I have to go from the beginning again but I might be wrong. I am just carrying over my settings from HTC Hero to my N1 :p
