Help Notification lights

The only notification light I am seeing is the trackball glowing every 10 seconds. The spec sheet makes it seem like the led above the screen is also supposed to be used for notification ala my G1. I tested it using sms and email and the notification ringtone rings but then no flashing led, just the pulsing white trackball every 10 seconds. One thing I really liked on my G1 was seeing the notification led's and being able to tell if it's an email, missed call, or sms by the color of the led flashing.

Is anyone else's led notifying them?

Oh, and my led isn't broken. When I plug it in to charge it's orange and turns green when finished charging.

yeah i want to know about this as well. it seems like my trackball perpetually blinks white if ive missed a notification and i sorely miss my LED indicator from my blackberry... let me know if anyone figures this out

I was considering buying a nexus one once the verizon version is released and selling my droid, but if there is no LED notification like on the droid, then that makes my choice easy as I will for sure be keeping my droid, if it is just a software bug that needs fixed, then I might upgrade to the nexus one, depending on reviews once it is released on verizon.

Yep, I returned the droid because the plans are to high and sorely miss the awesome droid led notifications. It blows my mind that the phone was released and this simple thing could be overlooked. What were they thinking.

I think the LED is also used when using phone for turn-by-turn if I remember the YouTube video correctly - it shows green/yellow/red for various traffic conditions.

I really hope they add the functionality for missed calls/messages etc. I don't think anyone should panic though, it would be a simple enough software implementation. I'm sure Google will hear our cries of despair :)

I thought the ball was tri-color. Maybe you have to configure the colors in the settings menu for each task.

I looked all around in the settings but didn't find anything for it. The only option was to "Pulse Trackball" when there's a notification. The app Missed Call let's you control the led color notifications but it doesn't seem to work with the N1 yet, so hopefully the dev will update it soon.

Excerpt from the Manual:

Trackball state Meaning
Flashing white Incoming call.
Flashing blue Incoming call when connected to a Bluetooth headset.
White pulse Notification received. You can configure the trackball to pulse once or repeatedly when you receive a new notifi- cation. See “Sound & display settings” on page 300.

Looks like diff colours are not standard. Just white and blue. I thought it was tri-colour too until I read this.

So odd they wouldn't make the LED functionality from the DROID be the same LED function in the trackball. Has anyone installed Handcent SMS and tested the LED colors? Would seem that if they had to code for the trackball, Google is intentionally fractioning the Marketplace (like Motorola did by introducing the Trackpad on the Backflip). So weird. Still doesn't explain "tri-color" if the manual says: white, blue. Unless "pulsing white" is the third color.

tri color is obviously red green blue, just not being used by stock applications.

Oooh.... I don't like hearing all of this. The lack of an LED might be a deal-killer for me.
This is one of the best things about BB devices. On my Storm, I have my LED color-coded for SMS, MMS, email, missed calls, etc...

Please, let's keep this thread alive in hopes of a solution.

I totally agree. I had the same type of program on my Tour and I loved it.
