I've already been asked how to install a ROM on the Inspire, so I will write this guide on how to root the Inspire. I will soon write a guide on how to install ROM's on the Inspire.
This process works for PC users. It is my understanding that Mac users like AndreaChristiano cannot use this program.
ALSO, it is wise to make a copy of your SD Card, so that once rooted, you can easily obtain your photos, videos, music, etc... without a hitch.
Here we go!
First, get the suspects for this project: Bubby's Simple One-Click Root Method, your HTC drivers, found in the HTC Sync download folder. You can find HTC Sync on HTC's help page for the Inspire 4G. Get Bubby's root method right HERE. Also, if he says to get anything else, do so. Before you download Bubby's root program, uninstall your anti-virus (AVG, Norton, etc...) and disable your firewalls. If you don't, the program will pretty much not run correctly.
Now that you have all of your necessary tools to root, do it.
Plug in your Inspire 4G and set it to "Disk Drive". And USB debugging should be turned on. When your phone comes up on your computer, choose to view the files. Once there, right click on the drive's name and click on "Format". DO NOT DO A QUICK FORMAT. It will take some time as well.
Now that you have formatted your SD Card, open up Bubby's root program. When it opens the goldcard maker, don't bother with the format option, we already did that. Skip onto the CID section. Select the only option and click on "Get CID". It will, if you disabled your firewalls and uninstalled your anti-virus, give you a goldcard number that has already been reversed. Click on the link to get the actual goldcard file. You will need to give an email address so that it knows where to send the goldcard. Don't worry, I've rooted twice so far and I haven't gotten any spam emails or anything of that nature. Once you download your goldcard, go back to the goldcard maker and load the goldcard image file. Select your phone (Mine is drive J or something like that) and load it. It will say success, so you can now move on. Go to the small window that says "I am done making my goldcard".
Now that the goldcard process is done, the program will actually run. Click on the option that says something about S-OFF and ROOT.
BEFORE YOU START THIS, PUT YOUR PHONE IN "CHARGE ONLY".
Now go through the program and do what it says. The latest version of this program has simplified instructions, so don't sweat it.
After all of that is finished, you should be done! You should now have a rooted device! Go ahead and BACKUP this ROM and install a different one if you want to.
ALSO, you only need to disable firewalls and uninstall your anti-virus for the download of the program. After that, you should be able to re-install your stuff and enable firewalls without messing up the program. I always wait until the root method is finished, so I don't know if it will have any further effects on the program.
I, nor the author of this simple root method take ANY responsibility to any physical or internal damage done to your device and or software. ANYTHING you do to YOUR phone is at your OWN risk. Downloading ROMs and Themes, installing anything not from an Official Google or HTC source can potentially damage or BRICK your phone! Please use these instructions, to EDUCATE yourself on how these OS's work and not for any illegal purposes.
Enjoy.
