Cracked Screen

It happened in slow motion and all I could do is watch as the phone slipped from a stand 2 feet onto the counter below. Striking the left side about 3/4 of the way up. The phone came to a rest on its face. To my horror as I lifted it up I noticed a large smashed screen at the point of impact and various cracks throughout the screen. None of the screen came off because of the screen protector and the carrying case in which the TB was in stayed on. THANK GOD for Insurance but these phones have a new deductible as it was described to me and the cost was $99.00. I have dropped my droid and BB storm many times without incident and the first drop with the HTC SMASH. I had a friend that had the EVO 4G on sprint and said this was a common problem. Don't know if it was but be careful out there everyone.

Am I the first person to smash the TB screen ??? LOL

I honestly think that it depends on how it was dropped, you never know what physics took place when it hit the ground lol. I had mine in innocase I came out of the locker room at the college gym and the main area in the front is all concrete and I dropped my phone while taking it out of my gym bag. I dropped it from pretty high too, it was close to my stomach and little below chest when I dropped it. It bounced off the concrete and hit the counter and then finally rested on the concrete. I was scared but there was a dent in my innocase other then that it was fine. I was actually surprised I didn't shatter the damn thing.

My case is Innocase II red.

I just sent mine in today for repair or replacement. It slipped and cracked...if I didnt have the ghost armor on the front I wouldnt have had a phone at that moment. lol. I guess Im thankful that I didnt order my phone through Verizon now though. I got it through Wirefly and got my insurance through MDPA. I pay NOTHING for my deductable, but the tradeoff is that I had to pay 11 bucks to have it shipped to them and I have to wait probably a week total for my phone back, but it saves me $100 and Im good with that. My enV3 still works for now. lol.

What case is this so I can note that it sucks at protecting the phone and preventing the phone from sliding off of a smooth surface....

I had the innocase black but I have the extended battery and since no cases are made for the extended battery that I like I used a box cutter and needle nose pliers and custom cut the battery area out so it would fit. By doing this the battery is exposed and left the device slide. I saw a lot of people having issues with the EVO 4 G screens cracking easy and was wondering if the TB will have the same issue. Moral of the story..... Be very careful not to stop the device lol

I Attached a picture of my wonderful smashed phone. Enjoy LOL  I also failed to say that due to the damage to the Left side for some reason the case shifted and caused an electrical issue with the power button. The phone would turn on and work but once it went to sleep the phone would not wake. The phone would power off when the screen shut off.

I am writing in regards to your signature as i have almost had all the phones you have had and almost in that order. Nexus One (your right it is almost the best phone ever made if it had a little bigger screen and didn't have the multitouvh issues I would still be rocking thephone) then I got the amoled droid incredible which I liked a lot, folowed by droid 2 which was a nice phone I just can't stand blur at all, folowed by droid x which I hated and mostly because of blur but I got sick of that buggy excuse for a phone, sold the x and got me another droid incredible this time slcd and had that until two weeksago, I picked me up the Xoom on launch and now have the thunderbolt as of launch. Anyways great line up and thought I would comment on it because besides the incredibles you have had the same lineup. Good to see another person as addicted to android (especially verizon branded) phones.

Unfortunately, I've read a number of stories regarding cracked screens and broken digitizers from drops.

Seems the TB is a touch on the fragile side.. hopefully my Seidio active X will protect it when I drop it since its always bound to happen..

I'm almost wondering if the insurance is worth it.. I have until the 17th of this month to add it, correct?

I kinda dropped my phone a couple of days ago. I wear a jumpsuit for work, and there is a button that that i forgot to fasten that is right by my pocket. So when i went to put my phone in my pocket i accidentally put it in the in the space that wasn't snapped in, and the phone fell down my leg. Inside the jump suit. Luckily it didn't fall fast since the pants aren't that baggy and i raised my leg at an angle so my precious TB just landed on the top of my foot instead of on the floor. I was upset for a couple of seconds till i saw the phone sitting on my foot lol.

I think part of it also has to do with the large size of the screens. The larger the screen, generally the heavier the phone and the more surface area.

At the end of the day, the insurance is ALWAYS worth it. $100>$600. If you have to pay $600 for your new bolt, Im guessing that youre not getting another bolt...but then again if youve got $600 just to blow on a phone whenever, I could think of better things for you to spend your money on....lol.

I'm thinkin I'm gonna go ahead and add it. The Active X case is super nice though. Combo of silicone cover with a 'rubberized plastic' skeleton on the back, corners, and middle of the sides. Sticks up enough in front that if it belly flops the screen shouldn't touch the ground.

Never know until it happens though.. either way I think I'm gonna go ahead and add insurance just in case.
