Thanks shadowninty :)

Mine seems sooooo bad in contrast with your's

I have mine OC @ 691 (crashes @ 710)

What is:

50% AHB Overclocking, and how to accomplish on my OSF?

HW acceleration on, where to do this?

Sorry for the newbie questions, as I have just got this, and spent 2 days unlocking/rooting and installing Swedish Spring RLS2 Froyo....

Kernel is showing as 2.6.32.9-perf

TIA

BTW, not really worried about gaming, I'm 57

I am running CM7 (Android 2.3) :)
I have mine OC @ 691 (crashes @ 710)
mine is a bit unstable at 729MHz :/

Kallt's kernels have this when clocked over 600MHz, i means the transfer of data between phone parts is speeded up
HW acceleration on, where to do this?
flash HWUI pack from the Seedish Spring thread :)

no need for apologies!

yup, 2.6.32.9 is the latest kernel source we have
Devs may start work on .35/37 :)
TIA

Hi again shadowninty :D

well, if you are, Tank Hero is great

I will try anything once, can't get addicted that way...;)

I just got this from market:

Blade buddy

It gives hardware acceleration easy, I think, and a lot more besides.

This is the great thing about Android, and the OSF, so configurable, brings me back to the Olde Days.

Would you recommend 2.3??

I would love to give it a go.

Really, honestly...;)

Thanks again.

I personally love CyanogenMod7 - I can't go back

Most of the bugs have been fixed, HOWEVER, you'd still want to be flashing an update every few days (there are auto-built "Nightlies" most nights (see what they did there? :D), which are mostly bug fixes now
things like FM Radio is still in the works, and apparantley GPS is a bit wonky.
Biggest issue for me is 2D performence (try another launcher (homescreen)
Still, 2.3 has plenty of new features, and CM brings many of its own.. so many neat little things you may never even notice :)

Download latest CM7 Nightly from here, download GApps from here

Backup important apps with Titanium Backup from the market, so you can restore to CM7

Boot into Recovery by holding down Voulme Down button at boot
There you can flash the zip (Flash GApps second), but make sure to tale a backup first
Also, in Recovery, Wipe /Data (Mounts & Storage)

Hi guys,

I have a clean default installation of "Swedish_Spring_RLS4b.zip" on my ZTE blade (gen1 / tft) since yesterday. My first impressions are good but the benchmark result of quadrant is very bad.

I only get 423, 442, 445 points. Is it a lack of hardware acceleration? Is there something need to be changed or extra installed? I don't like overclocking but with other ROMs the result were between 750 and 850 points. So I think there is something faulty.

What can I do for improvement?

Best regards,
Arthur

SS doesn't have broken stagefright enabled
Android 2.3 brings much improvements

Hi again shadowninty :)

So, as you pointed out before and I did not know enuff to take in, SS ROM's have this stagefright disabled by default, hence the low Quadrant scores??

And Stagefright is disabled for a reason, to do with audio and video playback?

which was bad/broken in Android 2.2?

And this has been fixed in 2.3, I mean Stagefright?

Are the 2.3 Quadrant scores now giving a true impression of the performance?

Or is Quadrant just not a very reliable benchmark?

Good discussion here:

Who determined stagefright was broken? - Android @ MoDaCo

The upshot is peeps should not take the Quadrant scores very seriously, as there is not a level playing field as between the various ROM's being benchmarked, IMHO ;)

Kinda defeats the very concept of a Benchmark?

it was fixed with 2.2.1 and is fine in 2.3

CM7 is certainly not twice as fast as JJ for me; its maybe 30% faster in games

yes Quadrant is quite dodgy :D

Thanks, Shadowninty, thought so much :p

So, on CM7(2.3), Stagefright is enabled, and has what advantages over SS, for gaming/video/audio??

Would it have a detrimental effect on Battery for e.g.

Is it useful for normal day-to-day use, like making/receiving calls, texts, mms, browsing, or is it aimed at gamers and those who use YouTube?

Can it easily be disabled in CM7, if necessary, or would it ever be necessary.

Perhaps for peeps posting Quadrant scores, prerequisite to have Stagefright disabled, level playing field ;)

BTW, thanks for all your patience and input here, specially with noobs like me, very much appreciated.

I can say that getting the OSF/Blade has given me a new interest and spurred me on to learn more about Android, and you have helped tremendously.

It allows better decoding of media formats
Would it have a detrimental effect on Battery for e.g.
only if you use it all the time

the latter :D

if you edit /system/build.prop and revoot i guess you could disable it - however it may be the only decoder library in CM
Perhaps for peeps posting Quadrant scores, prerequisite to have Stagefright disabled, level playing field ;)
for 2.2, probably a good idea

we are all noobs, even the manufacturers are :D
