Tethering..resolved?

the contract says that its unlimited only if you use the phone. if you tether, there is a cap

Just curious, what are you using to tether? Reason I ask is because I didn't think VZW officially supported tethering with Android devices yet. So if you're using PDAnet, VZW wouldn't know you're tethering.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a 5 GB cap, regardless of if you're tethering or not.

i downloaded the trial version of PDAnet. There used to be a big thread about this, but i dont know where it went.

I called verizon customer support several weeks ago asking about this. And what they told me was that 5 gig cap is applied if you tether, otherwise there is no cap. Contract says pretty much the same.

However in the thread that i mentioned (the one i cant find), there were many conflicting opinions about whether VZW cares or not, can they find out or not, and others.

I called VZW, about a data cap. The rep told me (we all know that they are sales people) but if you use data on the phone, the e-mail and data package is unlimited for smart phones. If you use your phone to tether OR you buy an air card, the MiFi or a netbook there is a 5 gig cap. Basically your phone becomes an air card, and VZW does know because you bought a verizon phone. They have branded the phone with software to prevent people from using this feature without paying a monthly subscription.

Hope this helps.
