Help Free, undetectable tracking app?

My wife and I like to keep track of our teenager via his cell phone.

We used to use instamapper, but he recently figured out that we were watching where he was with that and learned how to disable it.

Is there any free, undetectable tracking apps that exist? I've found tons of ones you have to pay for that range from $50-$300.

I don't think there is, but figured I'd come here and ask first.

Creepy or not, if I'm the one paying for the phone and the teenager lives under my roof, tacking his phone is just part of the deal that he must accept. If he doesn't like it he can pay for his own phone and rent.

Case in point, when we got our 14 year old son a laptop we told him up front that we would be monitoring it and using software to block certain sites. When and if this becomes a problem for him in the future he can give us the laptop back and pay for his own internet service should he decide he doesn't like our rules. That's just the way it is!

How is it creepy?

I have a 16 yr old daughter and I would like to keep tabs on her as well. I'm trying not to invade her privacy but as a parent, my number 1 responsibility is the safety of my kids. That and I'll be damned if I'm a grand father @ 37.

Is this phone an INSPIRE (being as you are posting in the INSPIRE forum)?

If so, you can track the phone at using htc-sense. If the phone is registered on the website, you can logon on to the website, and pin-point
the exact location of the phone.

Its not on ATT.

Its a feature of HTC (the phone manufacturer).

You;ll have to register for an account, then you'll have to register the phone on the website.

I think you'll have to leave the HTCSENSE option in the phone on auto-sync (this might disable the phone location update if turned off...(and this might be an issue if your teen finds out how to turn it off).

I believe the GPS service has to remain "ON" as well to pinpoint the location.

I have to agree with J_Droid23 on this. I understand you are free to parent how you please, and yes …this isn’t my kid. But geez, I think you’re just causing the kid to rebel even more, because he has a Gestapo agent for a parent.

Different parenting techniques are needed for different children and for different geographical locations.

This is not a parenting forum. The man had a question and it was answered. No one cares about your opinions

Fortunately, everyone who comes to this forum is allowed to have an opinion (even if it's one that we agree or don't agree with). No reason to be rude in the meantime.



I know that the OP already found a solution but perhaps a different option would be to track the car in case he "accidentally" leaves his phone at home (which probably isn't the case).

use google latitude

its free, but you need a gmail account.

which is ok, cuz you can make an account just for latitude.

Anyways, latitude is already on your phone. Go to google maps app and then hit menu, there you will see latitude.

Set it up and you are good to go.

You can even ping the person to "make" them check in. Its accurate down to the block or two.

I hate to tell you this, but if your parents are giving a nine year old a phone, they are bad parents. That's the problem today. Parents want to be friends either their kids.

no they gave him a phone because he is responsible,doesnt go over minutes,doesnt go over his data cap, asks before downloading apps, texts us to pick him up from friends houses. and he had his first phone at the age of 7, and was doing the same thing with that phone at that age

Well if your kid has an android, then I recommend "Marco Phono". Once you install it on your kids android, then it will send you regular text message updates on your kids location. It makes me as a parent feel a little better about letting my kid go to his "friends house". I think anyone who's kid has an android should check it out. You yourself don't need an android, just a phone that receives text messages. And at less than a dollar, it didn't hurt my wallet
